NHTSA Argosy recall notice

I was looking for some information on our Argosy motorhome and came across this NHTSA Argosy recall notice. I had been wondering why the floor in front of the refrigerator opening had been opened up and screen mesh installed. This explains it.

The other interesting item I noticed was the number of units affected which is listed as 5,276. The recall is only for motorhomes so does that mean from 1974 to 1978 Airstream built and sold 5,276 Argosy's . I was under the impression from what I've read elsewhere on the forum is there were likely only 2,000 to 3,000 total Argosy and Classic motorhomes built over the years. So, just how many Argosy's motorhomes were built?

Brad

having a 1978 argosy 28 i had to read this post. the way the recall info reads it would leave me to believe that an opening in yhe floor area of the refer service compartment would allow the drain off of propane in light of a leak, thus why would one choose to cut an opening in the coach floor in front of the refer itself ? or did i misunderstand the screen mesh placement in your argosy ?

My 1976 Argosy trailer had such a screened-over opening behind the fridge. See lower left hand corner of the photo.

I’m glad not to have propane in my Diesel Powered Trailer.

Roy, I didn't describe the opening very well did I

You can see the opening when looking in through the refrigerator access opening from the outside. On ours it looks like someone used a hand ax to chop the opening in the floor and then used some large sized mesh screen to cover it with. A real butcher job if you ask me. I've got to clean up the floor opening and then will be using some fine mesh screen to help keep critters out.

Sorry about the confusion

Brad
