Newbie HELP! Brake Parts for Argosy 28' MH

I just bought a 1978 Argosy 28 and need front brake rotors, pads and calipers. Also need airbags for the rear. I've been on the phone all day and can't find a part supplier. Where do you order parts from?

Don't know about brakes, but we got front airbags for our '78 Argosy 28 Moho from this place: Search Results | SD Truck Springs | Leaf Springs, Helper Springs and Suspension Parts based on a recommendation from another thread on this forum.

Just search for chevy p30 chassis parts. Youll find many suppliers, dont search for Airstream or Argosy because you wont find them listed but you have a chevy p30 chassis. Some parts are specific to chevy p30 motorhome subset but many many parts fit all the p30s.

Thanks. The P30 is what I thought, the truck mechanic where it is sitting at says it is not standard P30 rotors or rear airbags. Looks like I'm going to have to take another road trip to check it out. Appreciate the reassurance.

Those rotors might be motorhome specific, not sure. The air bags, front and rear should be no problem, i think i ordered mine from Michigan Truck Spring. I believe the two most popular brands are Airlift or Firestone. You should find those pretty quick.

Thanks Mayco. The rig is a 100 miles away, and the mechanic is a commercial truck guy AAA recommended. It does seem P30 rotors are different for buses vs. RVs vs. Step vans. I'll give Michigan Spring a call in the morning.

It looks like Rockauto has the parts. I did a quick search on a 1976 chevrolet p30 and saw my rotors in the the brake parts section. They are not cheap but at least they have them. I get a lot of my parts from Napa as well.

Im not quite sure why these mechanics seem to get stand-offish even after you tell them its a p30, seems to be a very common chassis. The whole "motorhome" thing i guess. Ive been using a local shop here for about a year now and we worked it out where i buy the parts and they do the work. Ive just tried to reassure them that if their labor runs over the estimate that we will work it out. No biggy. I dont want them to feel like they got burnt and Im more concerned about getting it done right. The owner has been pretty good to work with and my hope is to have one go to shop to do the work i cant do myself. (Or dont want to do)
I havent run into anything yet where i couldn't find the right parts, including for the Isuzu 6bd1a marine diesel. Knocking on wood here. I usually have to order most things but as long as i can get em im ok with that.

There are also some flat out geniuses here on the forums that will help you out with great information. Their knowledge and skills blow me away on a regular basis. I would have been one lost puppy without the help of the folks here on Airforums.

Mayco - this mechanic is happy to let me order the parts, just wish he told me that 3 weeks ago!
Mprokop87 - thank you, may I trouble you to give me the part number on the Rockauto page? There's many different choices.

Normally in their parts listing you would see something about 'motorhome chassis' or 'exc motorhome'. I didn't see that in any of the listings but the parts below look identical to those on my chassis. Hope this helps!

RAYBESTOS Part # 5022R {#105022}
ACDELCO Part # 177741 {#06260806}
ACDELCO Part # 18A97A {#19294245}
ACDELCO Part # 18A97 {#18027697}
RAYBESTOS Part # 5022

In the event they are the wrong parts, Rockauto is usually pretty good about returns. I have had to return stuff before due to a mistake on my part and never had a problem.

The code for the brake set on the 1978 Argosy 28 (8" wide rotor/8 bolt hub with dual wheel drum rears) is JF9 if anyone else runs into this issue.

Thanks all for your help!

More brake issues... Does anyone have the part number for a new master cylinder?
I see
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...58_3719%2C4119

But the mechanic (rig is still 100 miles from home) can't find a proper part....

One thing to consider is that your 1978 Argosy is likely built on a 1977 Chevy P-30 truck chassis. Check the chassis VIN in the front engine compartment. It is very common to see the chassis built the year before Airstream/Argosy built the coach body.

Yes, that is true it is 1977 P30. Airstream says they are not anything special. Not sure not why the mechanic is having such issues. Anyone have a part number they've used?

I replaced the one on mine from Napa auto parts. Here it is on Rockauto, same part...

More Information for DORMAN M98953

If you just search their website for 1977 Chevrolet P30 and then choose your engine, it will give you a list. Right in the description it will say 'exc Motorhome' or 'inc motorhome'. ... or something along that nature. Rock has been very helpful in getting me replacement parts.

Thanks Matt! Can't believe the local NAPA said they couldn't get this! Can't wait till I get this thing in my own driveway.
