Interior Configuration change?

Hello. I originally posted this in the "repair" section, not knowing an Argosy motorhome section existed. Does anyone have any comments?

Hello. Today I drove by a used car lot and spotted a 1978 Argosy motorhome, 28 foot. It was in very good original condition and I could probably get it for 3-3.5K$.

The only known issues are:
-Cheap chinese tires
-Exhaust leak near engine
-Lock/entry handle broken on door (he used a screwdriver to open)
-Ceiling in bathroom has crack in headliner

I know you're thinking these are fairly minor and certainly repairable. My main concern about buying this one is I really was looking for one with twin beds while this has a center couch that flips to a full size bed with cabinets and closets on the other side.

My questions are:
-Is it possible to purchase a new/rebuilt lock for the door?
-How difficult would it be to convert this configuration to accomodate two beds?

I am not familiar with the lock that is on the Argosy mohos but I know that there is a replacement available for the larger classic models, like my 345. I also can't comment on the bed situation. What I will say is if you can get a clean Argosy moho for that price, jump on it. That sounds very reasonable to me. I don't see how you can go wrong. Ron

I agree with Ron, if you can get the motorhome for that price its a bargain.

As for changing the interior layout, anything is possible if you want to spend the time and effort. We are going to change our 310 from twin beds to a queen bed. So you're not alone in wanting to make changes!

I came across a 28ft Argosy at a used car lot, also. Hope we aren't looking at the same one! I didn't get a chance to go inside of it but it looked in decent shape although the rubber around the windows needs replacing. One of the wheel covers is missing and the paint has a couple of chips in it. This one also had the center full side bed/couch. This was one of the issues about buying it. I wanted a motorhome with twin beds. I could tear out the cabinets and wardrobes on the other side and put in a bed, but that seems like a lot of trouble and destroys the originality of the Argosy. The bed, as is, doesn't seem big enough to comfortably sleep two. I would be appreciative of others that have the full size bed to share their experiences with the use of it. It would seem that this motorhome is basically only good for two people on two sofa/beds. I currently own a Class C motorhome that is definitely NOT what I want. It has bunk beds for 2, a fold down couch, and two small or one large person can sleep over the cab. However, for my wife and I, this is not the setup we want. If the Argosy had twin beds, it would be ideal.

Some people are concerned with originality on these older units. Others like myself and my wife prefer to customize them as necessary to make them work for us. We're changing to a queen size bed from the rear twins that are currently in our 310 motorhome. To each their own and if you buy the motorhome and want to adjust the configuration to your suit life style go for it you'll be happy you did.
