How to Open Water Filler Door

Hey All,

I just bought a '74 Argosy 24'. She runs and drives great. The coach needs lots of work though.

I can't get the fresh water door to open. It looks like it had/has a lock. What am I missing (both literally and figuratively)?

regards,
kevin

Originally it would have dropped forward (hinge at the bottom) and the flap acts as a funnel, to collect water into the hose attached to the fixed section.

It isn't uncommon for the rigid plastic fixed section to be cracked where the lock engages.

Of course it doesn't normally have the bolt latch, but I assume that is just to keep the flap closed.

Thank you for the reply. I assume that the lock is the tapered cylindrical hole above the flap? Do you have a picture of the key that you could post at your convenience? or is it just a regular key and I'm missing the cylinder? I've ordered the owners manual, that should shed some light on my troubles.

No hurry, the water system needs a complete overhaul so the filler door is just one more part in the project.

The 'lock' is just a cam latch that rotates through a slot in the fixed portion and engages in a flap. Below are some pictures of a spare I picked up.

I can get a photo of a key tomorrow (already evening in the UK) but you will get a new key with the new cam latch any way so not sure if it will help.

Thanks! those pictures were perfect now that I know what I'm dealing with I can fix it. I was confused by the amount of damage to the lock.
