Argosy Shuttle Conversion Electrical Questions!!!

What a great site. See my snowy23 introduction for a look at my 1977 shuttle bus conversion project, and what a project. The PO has installed most everything a 24' moho would need. The layout is front bath/w shower, kitchen and rear bedrm. Dinette across from kitchen. Currently have some engine questions.
1.There is a front fuse panel right as you open the ftont access door. Looks like it was for charging the house batteries as there are cables routed to where house batteries would have been(a compartment under the entry step). The panel connects to + battery terminal. You can see a solenoid in the lower center part of the pic. The panel also has what looks to be a key switch in the lower left corner(looking at the pic). Maybe to start the generator(which is not present).

2. There are what look to be two voltage regulators connected near the alternator. They seem to be hooked together in tandem and connect to the alternator. They are mounted on top of the fan shroud of all places. See pics.

Why would these be needed? The alternator seems to have a built-in regulator going by it's physical appearance.
Numbers on voltage regulators are: R00 150 78R8, silicon transistor voltage regulator, 5amps, 14volts
lecee-neville.
2nd regulator seems to be stock run of the mill black box type also by neville.
Any help would be appreciated.

Snowy,

The fuse panels look to be original Airstream, at least the ones in our 74 Argosy look to be very similar and the wiring style is about the same as well.

The round solenoid is probably a switching device that allows you to tie the coach battery to the engine battery for emergency engine starting. At least that is how the one on our 84 310 motorhome works. I'm not sure if our Argosy has that solenoid or not.

The finned box with three studs is a battery isolator. It allows the alternator to charge both the coach battery and the engine battery at the same time yet it keeps the two systems electrically isolated.

I will have to spend more time looking at your pictures to see what else I can identify.

Hope this helps.

Brad
