Argosy rebuild list

Some of you may have read about our http://www.airforums.com/forums/f310...ime-34907.html last August. The plan was for me to do all of the repair/rebuild/upgrade work myself but due to work schedule and an impending move to Kentucky I haven't been able to find the time and probably won't have the time until sometime next year. However we don't particularly want to go through another Trip of a Lifetime..... so we decided to have someone do the work for us so we could actually drive the little Argosy to Kentucky.

We're lucky enough to know someone that we trust to do the work for us. He will be doing the work in our shop using our tools which simplifies matters for him since he'll be doing the work after his normal work day.

The only item on my list I'm not sure about is replacing the power steering gearbox. The chassis has at least 110,000 miles on it and the last thing I want to do is replace all of the other steering components and find that the steering gearbox needs replacing. At a minimum its going to be pulled to have the seals replaced. So while its being torn down this far are we better off replacing the gearbox or taking our chances and hope that there is nothing wrong with it besides seals?

Here is the rather long laundry list for him to work from with the most important items at the top.

1) Replace Hydraboost Unit
2) Replace Brake Master Cylinder
3) Replace power steering gearbox
4) Replace power steering hoses
5) Replace front springs
6) Replace idler arms
7) Replace Upper & Lower ball joints
8) Replace tie rod ends
9) Replace brake hoses
10) Turn rear brake drums
11) Replace rear wheel cylinders
12) Replace rear brake shoes
13) Replace rear axle seals
14) Replace front brake calipers
15) Turn front rotors
16) Replace shocks
17) Replace rear springs
18) Drain gas tank

The engine is currently in the shop being torn down in preparation to be rebuilt. The following are what we're currently planning on doing to the 454.
  • new pistons & rings
  • cylinders bored
  • valve job with new guides and valves
  • turn crank
  • new bearings
  • new lifters
  • new oil pump
  • new roller timing chain and sprockets
  • new valve springs
  • new RV towing cam

So, can you think of anything that I've missed?

Brad

Take a good look at your fuel fill line, it is a bugger to replace with out dropping the tank!

Good point I'll add them to the list. We had troubles with those same hoses on the 83 Winnebago we used to own. We were stranded in downtown Detroit when the dry brittle rubber finally cracked enough to cause the fuel pump to suck air instead of gas.

I always thought it was a poor design to use rubber hose in an area you can't access without a LOT of work.

Thanks for the reminder!
