Argosy MH info?

Just curious.....does anyone own a 24ft 76-77 Argosy Motorhome with a Chevy 454 in it?

We know nothing about MH's of this era and wonder if anyone can let us know the ins and outs - pros, cons and if parts for the mechanical "motor" end of things are readily available. The "home" part I assume is just like a 76-77 TT.

What sort of towing capacity do these smaller motorhomes have - can they be modified - ie suspension, axle ratio etc.

Does anyone know where we could get the technical specs and layouts for the 24ft '76 Argosy MH?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The 454 (7.4 liter) chevy truck motor is very reliable, as long as it is used regularly, and you keep the fluids full and changed. Some models have a radiator that is a little too small to cool adequately, and they tend to overheat. The P32 series MoHo chassis does not usually suffer from this problem, although they do suffer from high oil consumption. A quart or two every thousand miles is not out of line.
The older Argosy MoHo's have a 2000 pound towing capacity, you can pull a small jon boat safely, and many MoHo owners tow 2600 pound Saturns without getting into trouble.

I pulled a 3500lb boat 1000 miles with my 28' 454 Argosy. It was like I was not pulling anything. It took 2 extra MPG of Gas(9 instead of 11)

Last October I purchased a 1977 24' Argosy with the 454 engine. It came with the original Owners Manual, the 1977-78 Argosy Motorhome Service Manual, the Chevrolet Motorhome Chassis Service Manual and the 1977 Chevrolet Light Duty Truck Service Manual. So I have a ton of information. What do you want to know? The only repairs I have done to it so far, was to replace the clutch fan with no problems. The chassis has 56,000 miles on it.

if you read back into the MH threads on this Forum you can see the obvious problem areas for our MHs. There are a number af areas that can easily be fixed if they become a problem,and many of us have fixed these or upgraded to prevent failures.
In general though these can be reliable rigs with a lot of years of enjoyment left in them.
