AC Compressor

I've got the A-6 AC compressor on my engine, it's the long one. By any chance does anyone have a working one with good seals just kicking around? I believe the seals on mine to be shot and I do not have the tools to swap the seals. Tonight I will do a little more testing to verify that this is the issue but I am looking to replace it in the near future.

Turns out it was not the AC compressor, rather a combination between the condenser (which is now totally shot) and the shrader valves. I replaced the valves and I was able to hold a good vacuum so I added some freon and leak seal/detector to the system. Once I put in 2lbs of gas (requires 3.25) it started blowing nice and cold. Since I was out of gas, I shut it off to go back in doors and I would get the gas the next day. Well as I was cleaning up in the RV I heard a loud pop and hissing noise. Turns out when the pressure in the system equalized it blew a hole right in the low side of the condenser. The gauges were only reading about 50psi on that side too so it must have been rotten!

Oh well!! If anyone has suggestions on where to get a new or good used condenser let me know. These aren't the easiest to find.

The best bet IMO is going to be to try to find one that will fit and is similarly sized and adapt it in.

Google something like "vintage auto air" and you will find sources for the older stuff, replacement items, and even new systems.

The old A 6 compressor is usually available locally as a rebuilt unit, and with the shipping weight, probably the best way to get one if you need one. There are also replacement kits using more modern compressors which are smaller and lighter weight.

Like everything else on a '74 motorhome, it takes more and more searching to find good replacement or substitute parts.

Someone at my work gave me a condenser from a 78 Caprice that looks like it will fit. The only difference is that the fittings are both on the same side so I will need to make an adapter hose. Not overly difficult but I think I can get it working this way.

I would still rather use one meant to fit it but free is free!
