I hope this works out....EBay 1970 Overlander

Well, we did it. We have been looking at and searching for Vintage Aristreams for sale with the idea of working on and restomoding an Overlanderish size Airstream 1966 or older. I just bought a 1970 twin bed on EBay. I hope this works. I will drive up to WV next week to pick her up. The pictures look good, but........

We have a 1997 34' but there are several places we have tried to go that it just didn't work out.

I will post pics and start asking for HELP!!! when I get her home to Atlanta.

Just to show how impulsive this purchase was, I just now noticed there weren't any pictures of the door side of the trailer in the listing.........

It does have a (according to the seller) "Factory Installed" Onan generator

It is likely a "Dealer Installed" Onan generator. I had a 66 Safari some years ago that had one. It's not a generator like we think of today, its a lawn mower engine converted to run on propane, with a 12 Volt DC generator mounted on the bottom where the blade would normally be. This was designed to charge the battery while boondocking, much like solar panels are used today. It has a wind up timer & a start button inside, so you don't even have to open the cover to start it. The timer has a maximum of 2 hour run time. Interesting concept & probably an expensive option in the day.
Good luck with it.

This might not be too bad. I was up early today and made the drive up to just North of Beckley, WV. It too, a bit over 8hours to get there, and I fretted and stewed all the way up. When I arrived at the sellers, I was able to determine that while it has a lot of leaky looking spots, the cabinetry looks good, the outer shell is fairly straight, the running lights and breaks worked. Now to get it home. I made it about halfway back before I had to pull into a Holiday Inn Select for the night. Thanks to my wife for going online and making a reservation for me, so that I didn't have to hunt for a place to lay my head. Before anyone asks, no I don't want to sleep on the stinky mattress.

congratulations, the trip home is always a combination of fear, joy and a little bit of oh boy what did I just do!

Just curious where did they find room to put a generator?

It's just forward and above the water heater in the bath closet on the roadside of the trailer. I haven't really looked at it yet, but it is a rather large cover on the outside of the trailer.

Ah Craig, now that you stayed at a Holiday Inn you'll be so much smarter as you renovate your new Airstream. That's what the commercials say!

You know how to find us if we can help.

Regards and congrats,
Nancy and Laird
