Seal the single glass properly with Vulkem, and it will outlast all of us.

Well, I finally accomplished something today that was worth taking a picture of to share. Through the help of a fellow Airstreamer at SpringStream, I made contact with Vic who builds street rods in Marietta, GA just off the main square. He has a louver press and made a replacement panel to fit into the refrigerator access door. I place another panel of stainless steel screen inside to make it bug proof and sealed it up. Tomorrow I will rivet it to the outside, and one more hole will be filled.

Also, for those of you who have wondered what is on the other side of the plastic parts of the outside storage doors I included a picture of the insulation.

That is cool Craig, I may want his info. Nothing like a little Hot Rod in your Airstream!

Here's a pic of the two doors installed. I feel so good about it, I think I will go camping this weekend (in the other Airstream)

That louvered door looks so nice! I think you're going to have to polish the rest of the trailer match.

Yes, I am going to end up polishing the entire trailer. As soon as it is watertight, I will polish the areas where all of the emblems and letters attach. Then install them and seal all the holes where they penetrate the trailer.

Yesterday the new Astrodome came from VTS and I was able to get it installed before the rain. That was a fairly small task. Today's project was a bit more satisfying because I thought it would be much more difficult than it was. I rebuilt the existing duel pane wing window. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the replacement wing window didn't cover the entire opening. So.....since I had the frame, gasket, and old outer pane; it was time for a rebuild.

The old frame comes apart very easily with the removal of two screws on each end. This allows the straight edge to lift off and frees the gasket and glass to slide out.

Next came cleaning the frame, window, and gasket.

Assembly was in reverse. With a bead of Acryl-R on the inside of the exterior edbe of the gasket. The gasket and window assembly is then slid back into the frame and the frame screwed back together.

I then flipped it over to what is now the inside of the window and gently forced a 1/2" Goodyear reinforced rubber fuel line into the place originally occupied by the spacer and inside window pane. This makes for a very tight assembly.

Are you going to put a fillet seal over the rubber hose. Those your toes in Pic 2?

On my way to Albuquerque in the morning for the Vintage Trailer Academy. Staying in a hotel though as my truck has developed a transmission issue that I haven't had time to address.

Oops, I hadn't noticed them hanging on the edge of the pick. I am not sure what you mean by the term fillet seal. My plan is to run a bead of Acrylic-R along both edges of the hose. Do you have a better suggestion? Would a fillet seal be better or look more finished? As it is the glass is quite snug against the outer edge of the window gasket.

I like your ingenuity with the hose. Nice.
Since the hose is on the inside, I'd think the only sealant required would be just to keep the hose from working its way out of the channel. A fillet of Vulkem or 3M 540 might look better, maybe.

It would do a nice job of covering the black hose as well as protect it from any UV breakdown

It's been a while since my last post, and there hasn't been much visible progress. I did pick up a new shower when we were in Jackson Center for Alumapalooza this past week with our 34'. Also, I installed a deadbolt door lock in preparation for the move from my yard to our storage place. My time is up on the waiver from the homeowners association and one of the neighbors has made a couple of comments to our association president. Unfortunately he won't tell me who is was so that I can tell them all about the joy of Airstreaming and why he needs one for his yard also....

So sorry that you have to move it! You're doing a spectacular job! We are looking for our next project, hoping to find little one we can use just the two of us so we don't have to bring the whole bunkhouse every time. Maybe we should have a rally at your house and invite the whole HOA for a trailer tour!

I managed to finish two more windows today. I am disassembling them and replacing the glazing and gasket. Vintage Trailer Supply was kind enough to source the rubber glazing for me and found it for a reasonable price. (of course anything is reasonable if you can't find it yourself....)

That would drive my complaining neighbor nuts.....sounds good to me. Maybe they will replace me a HOA Treasurer (nobody else will volunteer)

Rob,

I think you and Katie would like the 27'. Just be very careful in shopping......if you are wondering why I say that, see top of thread.
