New in town 1969

Well, the VW bus was getting too small for a family of 6 to camp in So our next move is the Airstream. We picked up a 69 Sovereign a couple days ago that is gutted and will start working on it in the coming days. Thought we would drop in and say hey. I'm sure we'll be doing lot's of searching and asking around here.

We're going to do our best at documenting the progress at Our 1969 Sovereign Airstream Trailer

Peace, Troy

Two sleep up top. Three down below. One sleeps on the cot that spans the two front seats. More at CaliVW78.com | Encounters with a VW bus

Fun times. We'll see how quickly we can get the Sovereign up and usable for this season.

Welcome to airforums.com, and best of luck refurbing your Sov!

Did you price out all the missing windows before buying it? It might cost more than you can get for the Vee-Dubyah.

Welcome to the forums.

We went the opposite in a way. We purchased a 2005 Airstream Sprinter Westfalia and sold our 28' CCD.

Our Westy is known as a James Cook in Europe. Airstream imported 250 2004-2006 models. You can see the shared Westfalia heritage as the VW but ours is a Mercedes sprinter and we have a bathroom!

You may miss the nimbleness of the westy but you will love the space and the bath in the airstream.

We are near empty nesters and use ours to follow our rowing sons and support our bicycling. Hubby cyclo-crosses and we do centuries together. We love being able to boondocks at race, ride and regatta venues. Cooper, our JRT is our constant travel companion.

Hope you post lots of updates on your progress.

We did take a look at that. We have almost all the window frames and plan to go the Lexan route. On the curb side though, we are missing three frames.

As far as the VW, it should bring a pretty good price because of it's specs. We'll see.

We are going to do as many updates to the blog as possible. Most of the work is going to wait until we get confirmation from the DMV that we are clear on getting a title for it. It has been sitting for some time and has been sold a couple times with no title. Once that is clear, then we'll start buying stuff. Until then, it will probably be limited to gutting what little is left in it, and cleaning it up.

I've made a new post today btw about more photo uploads and deciding on our approach to get it functional.

So I am guessing you should be able to at least double or triple the sleeping capacity in the airstream. PARTY ON!
