Tow vehicle 16' bambi...4 wheel drive needed?

Hello

Well, I am ready to purchase all...decided on and found the 16' bambi.
Looking at the Jeep Commander as a tow vehicle. Realize I need the V-8 vrs the V-6...Will the two wheel drive be sufficient? $ is tight but do not want to have any regrets.
Any thoughts would be appriciated

Hello Julie,

We own a 16' Bambi CCD ourselves, and have towed it successfully with a V6 Honda Ridgeline. The V6 even sufficed in the Rockies. The Ridgeline happens to have All-Wheel drive, but I saw no need for it while towing the trailer.

In fact, I'd say that if the conditions or road I'm traversing require 4 or all-wheel drive, I'd sure think twice about towing over that road or in those conditions.

I've no idea of the capabilities of the Jeep engines, but while we were looking, a hearty 6 cylinder seemed sufficient in all of the Japanese and US vehicles we considered. One caveat: there seems to be between little and no fuel savings with a V6 instead of a V8 - while actually towing.

So, V8? Maybe. 4WD? Nah, unless you've got some other use for it.

I may be mistaken, but I thought Bambi's were towed with a bicycle.

HI Julie,,, own a 16 foot Bambi ccd,, and started out with a Ford Explorer v6,,, after one short mountain drive here in Montana,,, traded vehicle in for a v8 heavy duty towing package,, so,,, life is better for all concerned,,, may be overkill, but,, did not like the feeling of the tail wagging the dog! good luck and happy trails,,, dieterdog , donna
