Replace Spare Tire?

I'm planning to replace the two tires on my 16' Bambi Sport - from GYM to the new Goodyear Endurance. Does one usually replace the spare as well (even if it's never been used?) It is going on 3 years. The GYM have about 4,500 miles on them but I don't trust them for another summer.

I wouldn't replace it until it was a few years older.

As a spare, it will do. Given you don't trust them, you would have to head to the tire shop ASAP after a flat. For me personally, time is crucial and rather deal with the flat afterwards. I would replace. It is worth the price over the hassle.

I would head to a tire shop ASAP after a flat anyway to buy another tire so I wouldn't be traveling without a spare.

I would replace it ....I would want all of the tires to be the same Age...The age of the tire is important, in that these tires age out, before they wear out ...If you have to use it, and it fails, you will certainly say, "I should have changed it when it was easy"....

On a single axle trailer I'd replace it.

Slight hijack, a 2016 3,000 miles on it tire picked up a nail though the side wall, so it needs to be replaced. The frugal me says use the new spare to replace the damaged tire, and buy a cheaper within specs cheaper tire for spare.
Logic being, spare is on a steel rim and would only be used to get me to the nearest tire store.
Am I being too cheap?

A lot depends on how far you travel, and how hard it would be to get a replacement tire if you had a flat. If it was me, I would replace the spare along with the two trailer tires.

The cost difference will be minimal. However, if you buy an spare tire identical to those on the axles, not only will it get you to a garage, but it can be switched off of the steel rim onto your aluminum rim without having to hope you can find the tire you need in the local community.

We picked up a screw. Used the spare and repaired the punctured tire for a spare. When we got home, the puncture and tire that carried the extra load when the screw deflated the puncture were replaced with new.

The spare was originally exchanged from steel to alum when we upgraded. That made the spare viable to rotate into the mix. Getting value from your tire investment is one objective. Not having a problem on the road that could damage the trailer or disrupt the trip is another objective. Your coach, your money, your choice.

Just get rid of 14s, don't push 65mph STs beyond their design limits, understand the associated risks, and make an informed decision. There is no one right answer. There is only what works for your budget, RV lifestyle and assumption of responsibility. Getting off the road, to the next destination, home, to the next paycheck, and the next trip are all different objectives and may require different answers. Work it out for your's.

Hope to meet you down the road in the campground with a smile. Pat

Normally, I select the best tire, for a spare, from those removed when I purchase new tires.
Last time, I purchase a new tire for the spare, because I knew I was going cross country and did not know how readily available a new tire would be if I needed one.

I plan for my spare to only be used to get me to the next tire store so I don't replace it frivolously. I check it before a trip and have never needed it. On a previous trailer I bought an identical wheel and new matching spare so they'd all be identical. The spare was never used and the mains were replaced regularly as they wore...so the money spent on the wonderful spare was a complete waste. Lesson learned.
