Replace Outside Step?

Anyone replaced their outdoor step with a more useful option? No issue with mine except it seems the space could also be used for additional storage with a little thought. I know weight & balance are always a factor. Keeping an eye out.

How would you get into your camper if removed? I was just at a site with a grade down from the road. It was like 2.5 feet to get to the step. If it wasn’t there it would have been a stretch up to get into the AS. My entry is toward the rear of the camper though. If yours is at the front, you could avoid my thought about it all.

Not getting this idea to compute. Remove it altogether? Or remove and use a portable step that is carried elsewhere? Then use the space where the step was to attach a storage box?

The rear door on the 22 is always subject to being backed into a space where the ground slope will make the door entry threshold too far off the ground for most to use it without a step. Maybe rethink this a little. Storage is important but not at the expense of egress safety. A portable step will likely lead to more issues than it solves.

(my 2ç worth - and worth every nickel)

does the folding step on higher end models fold up more , and use less stored height than the simpler one on the AS22FB?

they seem to be made of aluminum and not stamped steel

I’m thinking there could be a way to make a dual purpose step that also had some storage space. Maybe for shoes, chocks, or tools. Just wondering

We love this step, the AS step never comes down now, the long first step is easier to step down to.

does anyone have the AS part number for the folding alum step seen on higher end model

with the 3" lift kit, my other half would like to get the two step alum model rather that the one step steel model we have in the as 22FB

I welded metal grate on my step as a place to keep muddy shoes off of the ground. The depth is about 12" with a metal lip.

i'm getting this 3 step lipper 432696 off amazon

its 27.5" wide, the same as the under door frame
the stick is ONE step is 26" wide, but if you look under the steps you see that AS has given you more room for a wider step

with the 3" lift kit it's 19" down from the As22Fb floor

this 3 step model looks like a good fit

Replace Outside Step?

This is what I purchased recently to replace the original steps I crushed by running the curbside in to - well, a curb. [emoji20]

Fit perfectly in the 4 holes from the original stairs on my 2012 27FB.

I did need to use my truck’s spare jack and a block of wood to hold it up to the trailer and instead of using the bolts that came with it, I reused the original bolts (undamaged) to screw upward in to the threaded collars that receive the bolts from underneath.

I don’t see any storage opportunities.

Replace Outside Step

After having the 3” lift kit installed, the step was uncomfortably high getting in and out of the trailer. I purchased a 2 step folding steel stair unit from Amazon and removed the old single step and installed the double step. The width was the same, but I had to drill two new rear holes in the new unit. I used the old stair set frame as a template for the new holes. I used a small hydraulic jack to hold the new stair set in place while I bolted it up.

I had to order the Stromberg Carlson SMEX-24-29 Hickory Springs Extruded Aluminum Step-Double, 9"

its a two step unit
11.5" high when folded and 14.75" when extended as measured from under the floor mounting point
the lower step sticks out 19.5" from the front the side of the As

the three steps unit are too high folded for my as22FB, thus i had to return it
