Replace Gas Cooktop with Gas/Induction Combo in Sport 22

Hello!

I would really like to replace the Dometic gas cooktop with a True Induction 1 Induction+1 Gas cooktop. I have the Cusinart convention microwave below the cooktop that I really like and want to keep. The new cooktop requires 3" of clearance underneath the unit.

Does anyone know if that space exists above the microwave?

That's a cool ideal! If you pop out the vent surround for the Cusinart, you should be able to determine the clearance. One other way is to check the required clearance for the Dometic unit and work with that number. If you find that there is not enough clearance to the Cusinart, you could make a shim to move the new unit up a bit to clear the Cusinart.

We have one of those portable induction units that is one burner and plugs in. Never thought about using it in the trailer but that makes sense.

If you go to the airstream dot com website you can download the parts diagram for every make and year of trailer. I suggest you take a look at that as it may be a good place to start.

Thanks for the suggestions! If I get far enough to have it installed, I will be sure to post pics! The other thing I wonder about is whether or not There is an electrical circuit available for the induction burner?

In my 2019 I think there are 4 x 110V AC breakers that are shared by the outlets around the trailer. Then you have the heavier circuits for the Air Conditioning, etc.. And also the 12V DC.

There may be an outlet in the cabinet under the cooktop that the microwave is plugged into. Sometimes they stick outlets in the strangest places out of sight. Depending on what load the induction unit will pull, you may be able to plug into that. If you have an electrician doing the work, they will be able to tell you if a shared outlet will work or if you need a dedicated one.

Then you may be able to add a breaker (not sure on the space for more breakers) and run fresh wire between the cook top and the electrical panel, they are pretty close so that should be relatively straight forward.
