Ladders
This is something I’ve never seen addressed here, but it is a tool for making sure our TT’s are maintained properly….ladders. I saw Patrick from Colonial RV get on top of a trailer one time and noted the height of his fold-open ladder was really high. Allowed him to step right on top of the trailer. I thought that was perfect, but in retrospect, it was a huge ladder. I don’t want to lay a straight ladder against my trailer, and my painter’s 6’ ladder is obviously too short. Do I just bite the bullet and get a tall ladder, or does someone have a better way to get on top? That AC unit of mine probably needs a bit of cleaning and I currently have no way to remove it’s shell. Thanks in advance!!

I use this one https://amzn.to/2Qk2E7V. I wrap a towel around it to protect the Airstream and it works great. It stays in the bed of my truck, so I have it with me all the time I am on the road.

I also use a ladder similar to the one listed above. It is a good solid ladder and you can adjust the height for how you want to work over the top of the trailer. The rungs are slippery with flat rubber shoe soles. My trailer is old and I now just lean the ladder against the trailer with no visible result.

Yes, a telescoping ladder is your answer. I have one similar to the above pic. They store easily, too. I wrap with an old rug secured with bungee cords to protect in the truck as well as when in use.

A pair of canoe pads work extremely well for the telescoping ladders. I have never even had a hint of damage to the upper sides of the AS skins utilizing these. They weigh virtually nothing and a pair occupies little space.

Try using the method in the link below. It's the best way I've seen.

I have a Little Giant that I use at home to access the roof for cleaning. I only have actually been up on the roof once, and that was 15 years ago to replace the air conditioner shroud which had cracked. For that I used a telescoping ladder against the awning cover with a towel between the awning cover and the ladder.
Traveling with me is a Werner 3 step ladder that I use to access the awning locking wheels. I bought that after getting tired of using the long rod to loosen and tighten the locking wheels on each end of the awning. Just enough height that I can use my hand to open and tighten those wheels.

We have a Little Giant as well, which I send my spouse up...god played a bad trick on me by making me short, and afraid of heights :0)

We also use a telescoping ladder. I purchased one of those swim noodles and cut two ~12" lengths that slip over the ladder to keep it from scratching the trailer.

I also use a telescoping ladder and have added a piece of plywood covered with a towel that is velcroed to the third rung down of the ladder to spread the weight across the trailer. Works great and stores easily in the bed of the truck.

I use a telescoping ladder. I think the size is 8 feet. I pad it with a big towel and put it against the skin (curb side) or Zip Dee (street side).
I have never climbed on the roof. I stay on the ladder and stretch. I have been able to remove and reinstall the AC cover, clean the interior of the AC, and clean in and outside of the Fantastic Fans from the ladder. I'm 5'7" (170 cm).
To access the end caps, I work from an eight foot step ladder (which I do not travel with).
