Campgrounds/Sites to See from Bear Lake, ID to Vail, CO

We will be traveling between Bear Lake, Idaho and Vail, CO in the beginning of October for about 10 days. We would love your recommendations on what sites to see and what campgrounds to visit in southern and eastern Wyoming as well as north central Colorado. Thank you!

Paleontology

Head south to I-80 and then east to exit 91 to Green River where you find the beginning of scenic Hwy 530 which follows the Flaming Gorge National Recreational Area. Cross into Utah and take Hwy 44 out of Manila to connect to Hwy 191 into Vernal. There are three RV campsites in Vernal within an easy drive to Dinosaur National Monument. You can also stay in the monument at Split Mountain Campground 4 miles east of the Quarry Center. Reservation are made on Recreation.gov (https://bit.ly/3p7519n).

Curt Gowdy State Park in WY is very nice. On the CO western slope there is James Rob park which is right in Fruita. The paved bike trail goes through it.

Be sure and check to see if the Campground has the water turned on in October. A number of campgrounds, such as the KOA in Cheyenne turn the water off between October and April.

Yes, as SeeMore stated check out Flaming Gorge NRA - lots of boondocking along the western shore and many developed campgrounds also. Be sure to check out the Red Canyon visitor center and overlook. The dam was closed this past summer due to COVID. The Utah Field House state musuem in Vernal is worth the stop. Of course check out the Quarry Visitor Center in Dinosaur NM.
Other things to do in Dinosaur, drive out to Harpers Corner and hike out to the overlook. Drive down to and/or camp in Echo Park along the river - lots to see in Dinosaur!
It all depends upon what you are interested in?

Seemore and Doc nailed it. Echo Park and the petroglyphs are worth the dirt roads. Green River below FG is a great float, fishing or not. Meeker, Buford area up South Fork or North Fork of White River great. Glenwood Springs has the hot springs, not as great as Pagosa, but good. FG lodge has rv spots or Fireman campground, both are good.

Great fishing at Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Steamboat Lake and Pearl Lake NW of Steamboat Springs for fishing, hiking, and kayaking. Scenic and private dry camping amidst boulder outcroppings at Vedauwoo (pronounced vee duh voo) between Laramie and Cheyenne, WY. Anywhere on the Grand Mesa near Grand Junction.

Flaming Gorge is an awesome place to spend some time! We lived in that area years ago and spent every weekend possible tent camping there.

And Silverbee is correct, yet check at the Terry Bison Ranch rv campground as they have year-round use.
