Bike rack for 2018 Bambi 16 Sport? Any ideas?
Is there a way to set up a bike rack on the Sport 16?

There is a kind that holds the bike(s) up in the air over your tongue jack. (google "bike over tongue jack") But then you've got the rack in front of your panoramic window all the time. I'm trying to find a solution to this problem myself...

All I have found is the Arvika (made in Canada) and expensive. Front mounted. But you got to be strong enough to lift the bikes to the travel position and depending on bike types and lifting height, that can be a problem. My shoulder was busted in a Jeep accident and this precludes me doing so.

Thanks, I'll look into this. Can you still open the window?

Not with the bikes on the rack. But else it looks like you can. I don't own one as my lifting height is limited due to my shoulder injury in a Jeep accident. So we don't carry bikes (whew) but will when we get a new TV (2020 or later). LOL.

I still prefer using the TV roof mount system (Thule). The mounting and unmounting may seem like a hassle at first, but it's really not bad after you get the hang of it.

What about inconveniences regarding height? Any issues? With my (for an RV) short Airstream and 7'2" tow vehicle which doesn't fit in many parking garages but still at least is never a problem anywhere else, that's been on my mind...

My TV (4Runner) has running boards that allow me to reach the mounting rails, but I'm also approx. 6ft tall. Most people would be more stable or comfortable using a little 2-step stool. Otherwise, I really don't have any issues with the roof system.

Haha, I have to carry a ladder just to get into the back of the Expedition. I was thinking more of driving under something and taking out the bikes.

I prefer this too. I carry a milk crate to help reach the top of my Grand Cherokee. It’s easy once you do it a few times. Someone else asked about height issues. The top of the bikes are lower then the height of the Airstream.

I ordered this Stromberg Carlson tongue mount, from eTrailer. $200.
https://www.etrailer.com/RV-and-Camp...cc-onlyreviews
It gives you a "false hitch" to which you mount whatever hitch-mount rack you use when you're not trailering.
It would have worked, but I sent it back. I have enough trouble keeping under the weight limits, and this thing is big. And it would have been the same amount of effort, pretty much, as putting the bikes on the tow-vehicle roof rack, which is what I went back to.
It helped that I figured out I could stand on the rear tire and folded-down seat back of my Xterra and get up pretty high over the roof, without a ladder. Still a strenuous process, which I take in stages.
If it becomes too much, I may try the method of spreading a tarp over the bed in my Bambi and laying the bike on it!

sorry sent before I finished https://www.montaguebikes.com/ I have two and they fit in 16’ Sport easily one on bed one under dinette. Paratrooper Express and nylon carrying case is important. I am sure there are many options from other companies. Also your bikes are secure while traveling, and easy storage at home.

I figure my roof-mounted bike is my early-warning system!

I like it! Better the bike than the Airstream!

Here's a possibility that might work. Depending on clearances. I have one of these Lets Go Aero racks that slots into the hitch receiver. Works well -- I like the rubber bumpers and the flexibility of tying the bikes down with bungees -- but then I can't tow.
This one angles back instead of vertical and clamps onto your trailer ball mount so you can tow. You can unhitch the camper and drive somewhere with the bike on the rack. And the weight's more on the tow vehicle than the trailer.
Says you need at least 2" of the ball mount draw bar free to clamp on to.

You might want to measure your tongue weight after adding those bikes.

On my 2015 Xterra TV, I get good roof access by standing on a rear seat, folded down, and the top of the rear tire. Once I figured that out, I didn't need to bring the stepstool.
However, after knocking the bike off my rack at the Burger King (I forgot, OK?), I bought a Yakima LoadWarrior roof tray and I just lay the bike flat on some foam pads. That's also easier than trying to fasten the bike vertically -- pick it up, walk it on, strap it down.

I bought a "Jack It" by Lippert, and drove over 5000km with it. Easy to install, and you can take off the "wings" and it would definitely clear the windows. And the price was very reasonable.
