Best tire pressure monitoring solution?

2014 19’ Flying Cloud / Bambi looking to add tire pressure monitoring. Mothership can install but uses a dashboard machine motor - aren’t there solutions that Bluetooth to a smartphone app?

If there is such a system I've not heard of it.

We us TST and the monitor is smaller than an iPhone (a bit bigger than a deck of cards) and we just lay it in the console and refer to it as desired. It has an audible alarm if the presets are exceeded.

I use TST and have not had an issue. Purchased it through the Airstream Life store.

TireMinder, uses smartphone as display, doesn’t interfere with other phone function.

Tire Minder has a system that will work through your smartphone. But, after trying both the smartphone and the stand-alone monitor, I've gone back to the stand-alone version.

Too many problems keeping the smartphone connected, especially as we made stops and left the vehicle for a while and then came back. I prefer to have the stand-alone, and usually just leave it sitting in one of the dash pockets where it's handy. When it makes a noise my co-pilot or I will pick it up and see what the alert is. I do have a magnetic mount for putting it on the dash if I want to watch something more closely.

I’ve been happy with Tire Minder’s Trailer TPS. Very small, solar powered (no wires). I just leave it stuck to the upper left corner of my window.

I had the TST and replaced it with Tire Minder. I didn't like the display on the TST with BLINK BLINK BLINK next tire BLINK BLINK BLINK next tire tire and so on. The Tire Minder I can see all tires at a glance. The one time I had problem I saw the pressure/temps going up on one tire and was pulled over before the alarm went off.

The older Tire Minders and connection problems but the new generation seems to be solid without the problems of the past.

I'm guessing I have an earlier generation of Tire Minder... after having a blowout on my vintage Avion, I bit the bullet and invested in the receiver and tire transmitters for all my trailers. I've had 2 legitimate slow leak warnings (leaky valve stem 2 days in a row, lost 10psi) and countless false alerts, lost signal warnings, ridiculously high pressure alerts, etc.. It's a bit of the "boy who cried wolf" syndrome as I'm becoming numb towards the alarms but yet I feel naked driving without the unit stuck to the windshield... it's always turned on when I'm towing!

It's a sickness!

I have mine since 2017, the smartphone one. In the past once or twice I received warnings of a slow leak, each time I had to retighten the transmitter on the tire. This year I revisited the instructions because of a notification of high pressure, turns out I didn’t have the high pressure value set properly . But in any of the cases I outlined, I was glad to have the information. In my case a single axle, I think it’s important to have some warning. It’s like having a smoke detector sounding, I’d want to know false or real.

I've been using EEZ RV Products TPMS system. I've been very happy. It has a small display which charges via USB and charge lasts for days. But I really enjoy that it provide tire temperature as well as pressure. IMO, you don't need it on the dash or displayed all the time as once you set the alerts, it will happily alert you with loud beeps if the pressure or temperature exceeds your limits (high or low). We turn it on when we start driving and keep it in the console. Occasionally I will pull it out and review the numbers.

I not sure why you highlighted temperature but all tire monitors I have seen also tracks temps. The Tire Minder you push button and you can view all tires on the same screen temperatures. Pressure decreasing and tire temperatures go hand and hand.

I use that unit also. I just bought the repeater for it because I’ve found that the signal drops off from time to time. Aside from that issue that should be fixed by the repeater, I’ve been happy with it.

Is it still recommended to use metal valve stems if one was planning on using screw-on TPMS sensors these days?

Bluetooth?

Unlikely. The operating frequency BT runs on is around 2.4GHz, same as most low-rate side of WiFi routers. Typically, automotive TPMS sensors will operate at much lower frequencie. The point is that for RF, range is (generally) lower, the higher in frequency you go. So range at 2.4 GHa is going to be lower than say 315 MHz.

So my guess is the reason you don’t see a BT TPMS system is it just doesn’t work well for this particular application.

On topic: I ran a TST 507 on my ‘16 30 FC and it performed very well over two years extended travel.

This is my understanding.

But, if you have the new Goodyear Endurance (or any other tire with higher air pressure) you should have the metal valve stems regardless. Same for a TV - if your tires are higher pressure you should have metal valve stems.

Similarly, we have had TireMinder for 5+ years, with a monitor/controller like above.
