19CB Owners ( 2018 ) - What is your standard cold tire Air Pressure?

What do you all run in the 19CB for tire air pressure?

I'm wondering if it may affect some of the road rash damage I'm seeing inside where the fridge has come loose or stove etc.

I've been starting with cold tire pressure of 73.

After driving in the heat in TX, tire pressures on my TST tire monitor gradually increase to the mid 80s.

Recently on a trip to WY a few weeks ago, I saw 88PSI after everything heated up, so I dropped a couple PSI on the way home before things heated up.

I'm probably in the 4300LB Range on weight. I have not checked it, but we dont pack a bunch of stuff. So I would be surprised if I was up to the 4500 Gross rating.

I need to get a scale.

But anyway, what do you all run on your 19CB's ?

Get all loaded up for travel. Go to the CAT Scale. See what each tire on the trailer is supporting. Go to the inflation chart for your tires. (assuming you have GY Endurance tires) Inflate to 5 or so pounds above the minimum recommended PSI. Should get you close.

If your experiencing stuff breaking and general dishevel after towing you might look at your WD setup. Some WD hitches have more flex and provide a softer ride for the trailer. Over stiff WD bars? Transferring to much weight back to the steer axle? What kind of tow vehicle do you have? Is the rear axle to stiffly sprung? Lots of things can contribute to a messy trailer after towing. Consider looking at all angles to get that perfect setup.

I'm only looking for tire data on the 19CB.

I get my tire information what’s embossed on the tire, never had any such problems with inside trailer upsets refrigerator or elsewhere. I do travel on paved decent roads when it’s bad roads I slow way down. Camco sells adjustable bars for inside of the refrigerator to hold items back from toppling over.

Right. I know what the tire says. Max 80psi. But Wonder what everyone runs for cold pressure on their 19cb.

It’s possible you may have to look at other dynamics to correct problems you wrote about in your original post. It’s normal for PSI to increase as tires heat up from road friction, this is taken into account from cold pressure values.

Of course. Though my main question is what others are using for a typical PSI.

19cb Tire PSI

The side sticker on 2018 19CB states 80PSI. Should we ignore this recommendation from Airstream?

If you are always at max Gross, 80 works.

But I am not.

Maybe I am missing it but I do not see those limits stated on the sticker.

I run 70lbs cold on my 2007 19CB. It heats up to 75-76 on warmer days. By weight, I could probably go lower, but I have had no issues at that pressure.

Look up on the Goodyear web site the tire pressure weight rating for your tires. Based on weight the pressure is considerably less than 80psi. There are a few trade offs to lower pressure, softer ride, higher rolling resistance, lower mileage, higher running temperatures. Ours are set at 70psi.

Right thats why I was posing the question on what folks are setting theirs to. If the trailer was loaded to max, then closer to 80 would work but then again, PSI and temp increases as you roll down the road.

I have a 2018 19' FC with the same tires as yours. I'm pulling it with a Dodge Ram 2500 which is typically lightly loaded so somewhat stiff in the knees. Equalizer hitch with 400 lb bars.

The first two seasons we towed the Bambi I ran the tires at 80lbs cold per my dealers instructions. Never had a problem, although on hot summer days at freeway speeds I saw tire temps getting quite high and pressures pushing 100 psi.

Then mid-season last summer I dropped to 65 cold based on numerous comments on this forum and my concerns about the high pressures on hot days. Same roads, same destinations, same speed, same TV. I started experiencing AC vents falling out and screws loosening up, so earlier this year I bumped the cold pressure back up to 70.

And no I have not put the trailer or TV on a CAT scale. We live about 61 miles from the edge of the earth so it's a very long drive to the nearest scale.

I have 8K rated bars on my hitch, so I dont think it would be bad idea to consider the lower rated bars, on my end as a side note to this.

When I started out, I was at 75PSI and after a long trip recently where I saw 88PSI I decided to start dropping cold PSI to 72.

My fridge has come loose twice since it was new in 2018 and I've been wondering if My tire PSI Was too high, contributing to it or/and crappy roads .

So, I was thinking about dropping it more to around 70 for a while cold and go with that.

So, so far most of us are at the low 70 range which seems to confirm my idea that the slightly lower PSI is probably good idea.

I was running 80 pounds but after I popped a couple of interior rivets I knocked it down to 75 pounds cold (it is possible, of course, that the rivet-popping was unrelated to tire pressure).

I live in the South, and in the summer the tires heat up and the pressure runs up there quite a bit, but I don't let out air.

Keep and eye on quick changes in temp and pressure via the tire monitoring gizmo.

By higher outside temp the pressure can go up that high. And " comfort" then is low.

But maybij it can be safely lower.

Give this " pigheaded Dutch selfdeclared tirepressure- specialist " the needed data of TT and tires, and I will calculate for you.
