We're Airstreamers now !!
Hello everyone
When we were camping in a Coleman pop-up we lusted after an Airstream...
When we were camping in a 21' Aerolite we lusted after an Airstream...
Even when we were camping in a 27' Award Classic we lusted after an Airstream...
Well, the deed has been done and we are now the proud owners of a brand-new shiny 2006 Safari 28W SE with LS and A/V packages.
Interior is Forest Sage.
First little surprise- I lifted up the bed to check out the under-bed storage and now the gas struts supporting the bed are fully extended and refuse to come back down! I'm hoping someone here will know the "trick" to get it down?
Next order of business is a TV (2006 Silverado 2500HD/Duramax/Allison or 2006 Dodge Ram 2500/Cummins)
Hitch will be a Hensley Arrow.
Can't wait till we are ready to hit the road!

I agree completely except I would add "...or you picked the wrong season." I'm in Vegas now and can tell it's almost time to get out of Dodge (gee, does anyone remember what that means?).
It's great to be in Vintage AS--we don't have to fight those modern do-dads like gas shocks on the bed!

Congratulations on your New Airstream. It truly is a BAD bug to get !
Don't forget, you have a 2 year warranty on your trailer. Use it!

Congratulations on your new Airstream! We have had ours for one year now, no regrets. We love our Chevy 2500HD with the Duramax/Allison combo too!

Well that depends on alot of things.
When the truck was 2 weeks old, we towed from NE Indiana to Disneyworld and back, about 2400 miles total, the average speed towing was 65 mph and the average fuel mileage for the trip was 13.5 mpg. Solo at 65 mph on the interstate will yield 21 to 22mpg.
Mileage will vary with head winds, tow speed, elevation changes, etc....

Saw this thread and had to reply to jzelle - WE just took delivery of a 28' SE/LS Safari w/ A/V package last week as well! Our first RV, my first post on this website, our first camping trip this past weekend, my first time dealing with a sewer tube, lots of firsts - actually everything we did this weekend was a first. My family had a great time and we LOVE our new AS. Some good "rookie" stories happened - as in, we locked ourselves out Friday night and had to call a locksmith, but hey, after my blood pressure went back down it was all good. Cost me $55 bucks, though ("stupidity payment" to the locksmith.) Anyway, love the site; read it for months before buying the AS and it helped a ton. FYI - pulling the AS with a 1/2 ton Chev. Avalanche w/ "Equalizer" bars and so far so good; but then again here in Central Fla the highest we go is about 60 feet above sea level! Sure was fun watching the other RVers scoping out our shiny new trailer as we pulled into the campground!

Oh, one more thing - I've noticed a few things I'm going to need the dealer to fix - some popped rivets, the latch to hold the lid on the LP cover doesn't work etc. But, my biggest problem is the fridge - it seemed to take forever to get cold. Is that normal? By forever, I mean a couple or three days. We turned it "on" to run on gas around Thursday, the freezer got fairly cold but not freezing cold, but the fridge just got barely cool, if that. It wasn't til we were plugged in at the campground Friday/Saturday that things really got cold.
Granted, it was probably about 100 degrees in the trailer that first couple of days ... (remember, we're in Fla)

Congratulations ! It doesn't get much better than this does it? As far as your fridge goes,yes they can be pretty slow to cool down.

Congrats on your new rig. You'll love the '06 Duramax if that's your choice. Super quiet, Allison tranny is a plus, a real HOSS of an engine, and very comfy cab. Have a great time out there.

Hi John
The frig take's time too cool.
Go too Radio Shack and get the cooling fan from a lap top, $10.00.
Wire it into the frig light, be sure it is on when the light is out.
Really cools the frig down.
Wire in so you can pull the ground wire when unit is in storage. The fan draw's 1.3 amp.
