Safari Audio/Video Options

Looks like I may be ordering a Safari 25 Queen. Premium A/V package is priced at a whopping $2900! Package includes a JVC Reciever, Sony Sub-woofer, JVC 12 disc CD Changer and 15" Sharp LCD Flatscreen TV. These items would retail for maybe $1100 at BestBuy. The Safari comes standard wired for two televisions and includes an AM/FM?CD player and four speakers which leads me to believe that the wiring I'd need is already in the trailer. How difficult would it be to buy and install these items myself? This seems too simple to me. What am I missing?

My perception is that you get the upgrades (hardware ) that you mentioned plus the speakers and mounting brackets for the flatscreen. It does seem a little pricey, but when you price out all the components involved it is not too far off.

Luckily? our 22' International did not come with the upgraded equipment. I bought a Gateway 17" wide screen ED flat panel for $600 and a progressive scan DVD for $40 and will wait for prices to come down. With the changes scheduled for over the air TV that are coming up, I would not but any 4:3 ratio (old style square picture) TV. It will be completely out of date shortly and will require an adapter to work in the foreseeable future. Just an opinion, but you can get pretty close to what is being offered for less than $1,000 and get more use out of it than what is available from the factory now.

(I have to assume the factory will be offring a wide screen TV soon.)

I've not seen the A/V package so I'm not sure if there are additional speaker placements or different locations for the upgraded speakers. I think the TV location in the main living area of the coach may be different.

I know that the Airstream swivel mount for the flat screen TV is somewhat unique since it has more screw holes for mounting. Every one I have seen so far in an aftermarket mount only has 4 holes. Due to the extremely thin walls of the trailer and subsequent motion, I would be hesitant to mount one of these with only 4 screws holding it in.

I'd avoid the external speaker option if available. I ordered it for my 28' CCD. Got two speakers that are mismatched 8 ohms to 4 ohms and so are barely audible. Also, the dealer had to McGiver a jack onto the wires to plug into the outside connector and we find it's connected to the rear inside speaker so you can not get stereo. Also, if you get the stereo option, check the mount. My stereo with heat sink, and two hot transformers were all mounted in a totally enclosed wood box with no ventilation whatsoever. I smelled something hot & ejected a CD which was too hot to hold. My dealer remounted the box on legs for underneath air draw and left the back of the box off for flow.
