West Coast 50th Anniv Capetown (CA) to Cairo (OR) Rally Anyone?

About 650 miles total. Starting on the northern California coast, and proceeding generally northeast through Redding, CA and Shasta Lake areas, to Goose Lake, OR, to the unincorporated community of Cairo, OR, near Ontario/Fruitland, OR.

It is great to see that the West Coast is planning to remember the 1959 Wally Byam Caravan to Africa.

To start the caravan, stay at the Ferndale, CA fairgrounds and take an auto tour of Capetown. From Eureka to Redding, CA, plan on a day for this 150 mile trip across hwy 299. It usually takes me at least 5 hours to drive this route with my trailer. It is a very scenic and enjoyable drive if taken in a day. If taken as part of an extended drive, it is not enjoyable. It's too curvy to hurry across. At Whiskeytown Lake National Recreation Area, Oak Bottom camp has parking for a few big rigs. It is just a parking lot with gorgeous views. Dump station and potable water available. Goose Lake State Park, OR is non-reservable but would be a great place to stop overnight.
I would love to be on this caravan. I don't think I'll have the time for the next two years, though!
