Vintage Trailer Academy - 2014

Vintage Trailer Academy !
An Unmatched Opportunity to Build Your Skills

An event for the serious restorer to learn new skills or sharpen existing skills. This event is a combination hands-on and intensive classroom learning event for those interested in acquiring new skills or sharpening existing skills necessary for riveted trailer restoration and gain hands-on experience along with meeting a network of friends to share ideas.

For the seventh year in a row we are pleased to have Area 63 Productions, the premiere Airstream restoration specialist located in California, as a sponsor of our event. We want to thank Uwe Salwender for his commitment to our event and his continued support in helping hundreds of restorers acquire the skills necessary to restore their Airstreams. Uwe has brought to the event a wealth of information while demonstrating axle replacement, skin replacement, vintage door reconstruction and Fantastic Fan installation.
Our staff consists of professionals in various areas of expertise from all over the U.S. – we teach skills by those who do this stuff for a living and will show you the correct way to restore, rebuild or just fix up your coach.

Imagine being able to go to a professional shop and stand next to and work next the owner for a day to have him or her show the tricks of the trade, being able to ask all the questions you might have – that is the opportunity you have here. The tuition is a bargain for the opportunity.

As in prior years, we’ll have both classroom and hands-on seminars where you can roll up your sleeves and participate. Topics will include an overview of trailer restoration, rivet and skin skills, cabinetry, Zolatone, electrical, axles, plumbing, window and door rebuilding, and nterior design. In other words, this is THE ONLY event where you will learn the skills and gain the confidence necessary to fully restore a vintage coach.

We supply the tools, experts and a Route 66 location in addition to a workbook covering all seminars, a catered meal and continental breakfasts. Not experienced? No need to be as this event is for both novice and experienced restorers. We promise to provide a comfortable environment to pick up the skills you will need to begin, or finish, or renew your enthusiasm for your project. Is your vintage not yet road-worthy? In addition to a few stationary trailers for rent at Enchanted Trails RV Resort, there are hotels nearby!

We look forward to seeing you in Albuquerque in May 1-4, 2014. Don’t delay! Visit our new website vintagetraileracademy.com for more details. These classes and seminars are limited in size and so we have a limit to how many attendees we can accommodate, this event fills up fast so be sure and register today!

I may have missed this, but could you please tell me the hours of the classes, especially for Sunday; are the classes held on Sunday, and if so, what time are they completed?

We are in the planning stages for a trip out to the Academy, and are wanting to be able to plan before and after.

Thanks.

Interested!!! Just need a little more info on the schedule. I only see May 1, 5pm to May 4, 5pm (though directly below the header it says May 4, 8pm). Is Thursday just an evening meet-n-greet or are there some scheduled classes/events for the morning and afternoon?

Sounds great.

We fixed the time on the website Vintage Airstreams arrive all day on Thurs - we do sign in meet/greet appitizers etc at 4:30 - and have a program that wraps up about 8pm - then Fri and Sat we hit it hard - 8-6 both days - continental breakfast at 7am each day - catered diiner on Sat night - on Sunday we go from 8 to noon - we leave Sunday afternoon open for wraping up things, looking at projects - however in our experience a lot of folks do leave Sunday afternoon. We will get the actual schedule out as we get a little closer. Keep the questions coming !

One other thing, we don't think our vintage will be road-worthy by then, and are planning on bringing our '99 Safari -- not a vintage............can we still get in!??

Not a problem at all - we've had folks even tent camp with us.. this is one event you don't even need to own an Airstream or riveted trailer - yet All you need is desire to what to know how these trialers are put together....

Thanks Ken.

We are confirmed for the Academy. The office for Enchanted Trails must close early as they didn't answer, so I'll call them tomorrow to reserve our site.

Thanks again and will see you in May!

Is there a hotel nearby that folks use? I may need to fly rather than tow from Atlanta.

If you want to stay closer to all the action, the Enchanted Trails camp ground has vintage trailers to rent. we are staying in one for the same price as the rv sites thanks to Vicki at the campground.

I wish I could confirm today but life (and possibly moving) get in the way sometimes. We have so enjoyed the last couple of years and learned so much that Cleco and I will be heart broken if we miss this. Ken, Uwe and the rest have become the highlight of our spring and a great excuse to get together as a family-isn't that what Airstreaming is all about?
For those of you who have not attended or aren't sure- this is the best learning experience you will have.
Don't miss it!
Hope to see you there

Is this hands on or just instructional? I only ask cause I would love some hands on before I tear into mine.

This looks like it would be a great event for Airstream owners and prospective owners. Is there any thought of doing something like this on the East coast?

Hi, Ken

I realize that's it very early for reserving rooms, but I just tried to book at the LaQuinta and they weren't aware of Vintage Trailer Academy. I dialed the number listed at the registration portal and first connected to reservations and then to the front desk when reservations couldn't help. The front desk suggested I call back tomorrow AM and speak to the manager.

I booked online to secure my room, but I can cancel up until the day before. Can you provide any additional information regarding the La Quinta and what rates we should be expecting?
