Floydfest Odyssey

Floydfest turned it up to 11 this year.

Saw about a dozen Airstreams, from a ‘52 to a new Atlas.

I went to ROMP this past week. It has been almost 2 years since I have been to a festival. There were 5 Airstreams there. I camped in my tent since I was by myself and it was 600 miles away.

Wide Open Bluegrass will be in Raleigh, NC October 1 and 2. It is my favorite festival.

The Bluegrass Island Music Festival will be in Manteo, NC October 21-23. I will be camping in site B22 at Oregon Inlet National Seashore CG. This is a great outdoor festival and the very best time to go to the Outer Banks.

Music Festivals and Airstreams

The IBMA World of Bluegrass Festival is this weekend in Raleigh, NC. This is really 3 festivals in one. The Bluegrass Ramble starts today through Thursday at 6 downtown venues from about 7 pm - 12 am. Friday and Saturday music is outside and free at 6 stages downtown. The best known bands will be performing at the Red Hat Amphitheater downtown.

Masks are required indoors and bring proof of vaccination.

I will be going there Thursday. I camped on the street in 2019. I am planning something similar this year.

Let me know if you are going or contact me if you have any questions.

Sorry not to make it down there, Dan. I have been having brain lesion health issues, and am in an assisted living facility to get better hopefully. I was not able to answer your earlier PM's to my old ID.

Hope you are having a great weekend!

Peter

Dan, if you were sitting in the boat with the creatures I would print it out and frame it. Maybe next time. Have fun.

"You Got Gold" -- John Prine -- October 2022

John Prine's "Oh Boy Records" has announced that the 2021 event has been scheduled for October 7-12, 2022 in Nashville.

https://www.johnprine.com/news/you-g...tponed-to-2022

Not really a "festival" for camping, but this Prine event would be great to attend, and camp nearby, on the way to/from IBMA, the Outer Banks, and so forth IMO.

Looks like the Fall of 2022 will offer many competing events in September and October, so planning ahead will be helpful.

Music Festivals and Airstreams

I realize in looking at this thread that I never did report on the IBMA “Bluegrass Live” festival I attended in Raleigh, NC. It was a great festival but attendance was down a bit as expected. I normally attend all 3 days of Bluegrass Ramble on Tuesday-Thursday which is music at 4 bars and 1 church from 7- midnight and sometimes later. I ended up going to Raleigh on Thursday and returned home Sunday.

I arrived in Raleigh about 6:30 pm and was concerned that my stealth camping spot on the street might not be available since the IBMA Awards show was being held at the Duke Energy Concert Hall. No problem. Plenty of parking was available.Click image for larger version

I attended a couple of shows at the Lincoln Theatre, then listened to some music outside at the Marriott Hotel where many of the artists stay. I rode past the Concert Hall before returning to the Airstream for the evening.Click image for larger version

There is a two hour parking limit where the Airstream was parked so I decided to see if I could find parking in a more residential area but still close enough where I could ride my bike from the Airstream to the music downtown. I got lucky and found a great place to park next to my favorite breakfast place, the Yellow Dog. I parked on the street next to a historic park and across from the Mordecai House which is the oldest house (originally a plantation) in Raleigh, built in 1785. Easy biking, a little over one mile, to the downtown music as the terrain is level, shaded and reasonably safe.Click image for larger version

There was great music to be heard at all the downtown stages (free) and I really enjoyed the music at the Red Hat Amphitheater where the Steep Canyon Rangers played and Bela Fleck performed his latest album- My Bluegrass Heart featuring Michael Cleveland, Sierra Hull, Justin Moses, Mark Schwyz and Bryan Sutton.

I am looking forward to next year and plan to attend the full 5 day festival.

Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival -- July 14-17 2022

Tickets went on sale about a week ago.

https://greyfoxbluegrass.com/festival/

Line-up coming: https://greyfoxbluegrass.com/festival/2022-lineup/

On site camping: https://greyfoxbluegrass.com/festival/on-site-camping/

Hot and humid up that way in July . . . nice to see some festival possibilities coming up on the radar IMO.

Just discovered this thread. We purchased our first travel trailer 6 seasons ago so we could be more comfortable attending weekend music festivals. Since then we’ve attended several festivals throughout Ontario, Canada which we’d highly recommend.

Eaglewood Folk Festival, Pefferlaw (no longer being presented)
Hillside Festival, Guelph
Kingsville Music Festival, Kingsville
Summerfolk Music & Arts Festival, Owen Sound
Mariposa, Orillia

Festivals are a great way to travel and hear fine live music!

If you hear of any new festivals in PEI and Nova Scotia for this year, please post links. We went to PEI back in the 1990's in the old 1987 25' Sovereign, before they built the bridge, and had a great time.

Hopefully the virus will continue to settle down, and the border will open a little more each month throughout 2022. From New England, the Canadian Maritime Provinces are a fairly easy trip.

Happy Trails!

Hey Peter,

I haven’t attended any music festivals down East yet but I know almost every large community has one. I’ll look some up and post some links soon.
For East coast must sees I recommend:

Hopewell Rocks, New Brunswick
Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia
Louisbourg, Nova Scotia
Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia
Lunenburg, Nova Scotia
Gaspe Peninsula, Quebec

And, if you have the time and money for the ferry or the plane ticket I highly, highly recommend a trip to Les Iles de la Madeleine!!!

Thanks . . . looking forward to your suggestions. Are there still ferries from Maine to Nova Scotia, or has the border situation made that too complicated for small runs like these?

Cheers,

Peter

Sometimes east, sometimes west of the Hudson River... depending on where they can get the land and permits. Regardless a very well run festival where you sign up for your camping based on how you want the weekend to go. They segregate by "family", "jam all night", "generator", "casual musician open for discussion" etc. Typically you park your trailer and have to park your vehicle on another plot of land. Both east and west locations have spots where you can wait until check in opens...usually very strict with that as it is in rural areas on farm land. Don't expect to have your vehicle at the front of your unit for sure. They do run shuttle vans to transport around the venue. I lived there, never went there, one of those I shoulda moments in life.

We recently reserved a serviced site at Guelph Lake Conservation Area for the weekend of the annual Hillside Festival held in July.
We're eagerly awaiting the opening of reservations for Kelso Beach Campground for the weekend of the Summerfolk Music and Crafts Festival held in August.
If we can squeeze them in, we'd love to attend the Mariposa Festival and Kingsville Music Festival.
I highly recommend all of them!
