Great Doug, Larry and I are axiously awaiting you arrival so you can tell us all about those Rumely's. We both want to know from Rodger how they work all all the stories about them.
Tell Jason I'll have some cold Blue waiting for him when he gets here.
I'll also have some pizza from the local shop that I can get with a coupon.

Those Rumely tractors are really something. Seeing machinery like that always makes me try to think back to the first owner, and the pride he must have felt having such wonderful new technology for himself.

Some flywheels they had, huh? And of course, they were well before there was the "streamlined" style influence. Nor, of course, did they need it.

Hey, you all have a great time out there in Beautiful Southern Ontario, got my fingers crossed for good weather for you all!

They have arrived

It was the coolest sight I have ever seen. I looked up the road just before noon and over the crest of the hill came 4 A/S in tow all gleaming in the mid day sun. Shortly behind them was the SOB 5er also attending and while discussing site location the 6th A/S also showed up.

We got everybody on to their sites with no problem. Each site was chosen according to the trailer size and all fit well. Everyone got set up while I ordered the pizza for lunch and then I handed out the rally shirts. We ate, we talked, and we laughed.

Then the men all came over to look at my trailer and the progress or lack of it so far.
Jason's two boys have already made friends and were playing in the park. Then they discovered the pool so they just had to go swimming.

Doug has taken the men up to the local sawmill and lumber/hardware/tool store. The sawmill just had it's annual wood show and expo this weekend and have lots of deals left on woodworking tools etc.

I got busy with the rest of the campground for a while but I think the women have gone for a walk around the park to get the lay of the land.

Airstream School

So this morning the weather wasn't the greatest. It started out raining lightly then picked up a bit. So after breakfast the ladies all headed out for some retail therapy and the men all gathered at my trailer for a lesson from Doug in buck riveting. I already had the new curbside wing window cleco'ed in place ready to be bucked in. Once the window was removed again and butyl tape applied the window went back in and everyone got a chance to watch Doug buck it in.
We moved on to removing the roadside wing window by drilling out the rivets and trying to remove the locking bar that holds it to the center window. The bar wouldn't budge so now we are going to try and free up the window from the shell to release the tension on the bar. All the old vulkem on the inside needs to be removed so everyone broke for a beer break and left me to scrape off the vulkem. Class should resume before happy hour this afternoon.
we may even get on to some polishing lessons later if anyone is interested in trying.

Keep the stories coming

Great posts and much appreciated. The photos are great, although I'm still jealous we couldn't be there. Have fun, but keep posting.

Open House

Late this afternoon after I got the other window ready the guys came back over and Doug got the other window bucked in. We even had non-airstreamers attend. they were enthralled at how these trailers are put together, asking lots of questions about riveting, cleco's and how well they trailers last. they now know why are might just be visiting our local dealer soon.

Here is the finished product. No more fish bowl wing windows:

Sorry about this I pushed the wrong button so i have to add this commentary in edit.
We held an impromptude open house this afternoon. The newest TAC member here in Ontario was able to drop in and she was welcomed by all. We got to tour a CCD, a 67 Safari and a really neat 58 GT. These are the shots from the open house.
I've got to go I'm missing out on the campfire chat. More later.

All Good Things Must End

I've heard this expression lots of times, now I fully understand what it means.
I can honestly say that this is the first time ever that I felt sad that the campers were leaving. The three days just flew by and I feel lonesome and lost now that they have all left.
I made lots of new friends and listened to some great stories, saw lots of diferent Airstreams. I will miss them all deeply and can't wait until we can have another rally here.
We did manage to gather this morning for a couple of group shots in between small bouts of rainfall.

Here are a few shots of the caravan on it's way out of the park. They are still shots because I couldn't figure out how to shoot video with my camera. they are in sequence so if you flip through them fast it seems like a movie.

Many many thanks to Jason for suggesting this rally and a great big thank you to Doug for promoting it so well.
Maybe next year the TAC Canada rally will have 30 attendees. I can only hope so as I would love to meet more friends.

Where's your local dealer? Hanover? Or London?

Sorry we couldn't make it, Chris. We're going camping this weekend, otherwise we'd have loved to come up to Grey Cty. I have relatives up there and everything.

Hi Kevin long time no chat. The "local dealer" is the only dealer in Ontario. Can Am RV in London. They are local by forums standards as people all over North America may be reading this. Not so local to here, two hours away.
There's always next year if we get one organized for you to attended.
Have you thought about joining TAC?

Chris,

There's also one here in Ottawa, although the last time I was there, the only evidence of their Airstream status was the fact that they had two of the smaller AS trailers on display.

Wow Chris you didn't waste any time getting the pics up - they are great! We made new friends and really enjoyed ourselves at our first AS rally. You were a great host and made us all feel right at home.
The sites you fitted us into gave us the feeling of a small AS village.
Your '73 looks great so far - all the best with the rest of the restore.
Thanks again.

You're entirely welcome Sharleen. It was indeed a pleasure meeting you and I enjoyed myself as much if not more than everyone else.
Thank you for the compliment on the trailer and I hope to one day be able to use it at some other rallies.

Is that the original interior of a 1960's era Safari I see watching the "Wheel of Fortune"?

Looks like you all hit the Jack Pot on your trip.
