Some good news I just heard this morning is that Mexico is creating a bilingual police force whose job is to patrol the first 50 miles of baja in the interest of promoting tourism.

So good luck with planning your trip - this can only help.

I'm posting this to bring the topic back up in the forum. For the trip we're not too concerned with safety issues. We will cross at Tecate, not run at night and will try to get to Santo Thomas, a possible meeting place. My biggest concern at this point is the "Topes" in rural towns. Our Safari is pretty close to the ground. Anyone have input?

I'm interested, but it's 50-50 for me.

I can provide digital maps for Baja for anyone who wants to use GPS moving maps in their laptops.

Another request for information about the "Topes" or huge speed bumps in some of the Mexican towns. When we did a lot of camping south of the border our rig was a pop-up designed for off-road pulled by a Landcruiser and presented no problem. Today, our Safari is really low to the ground. Are we going to have a problem?

Some interest here. We are in New Orleans... heading west. Big Bend for Christmas? Baja in Jan. might be a possibility. Need to know more. Can't commit just yet.

We are interested

Gail,

Are you still recruiting trailers for a Baja trip in early January?
We will be in SoCal in late Dec.

Welcome to any one interested. We are laid back and plan to enjoy the beaches and whale watch. I have an itinerary and have all the info regarding ins and if you are bringing a pet. WE have a dog. I have reservations for the whale watch if anyone is interested. Pleae email me gmalibu@verizon.net
I have approximate costs and this will be pay as you go. This is a great deal as other people charge lots of money and we just want some other streamers to go along. Better to have 2-5 just in case someone has a flat!!!!!!!!!!

Darn it, I would SO like to go on this, but I am just out of the hospital from neck surgery. My doctor would throw me to the sharks if he found out I wanted to drive my trailer there now. Bet he wouldn't care if I hopped a ride with anyone...I don't take up much room!

Well....you can follow our reincarnated mini rally (as Gail had to cancel) to Baja here: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f290...n-59868-2.html

We are still looking for last minute folks to join in! Even if part way or join us camping along the way!
