That's fine, we're glad to have you!

Everyone, please remember to get the reservation forms to me - I think I only have about 6 at the moment, and I'm pretty sure plenty of others have registered at the campground.

I'm getting excited. It's gonna be weird running a rally out of a camper with actual space to work in...

Thanks! Cookie Contest?

Thanks! I'll get the rally registration in as well.

Did I read about a cookie contest? Because I have to tell you, my wife's chocolate chip are the best in the D.C. area. Then again, she has a bakery business, so does that disqualify her? Either way, I'll bring a couple of dozen as welcome snacks at our site. They go really well with Manhattans.

Also, I think I'll have an outdoor movie setup built by then, if I put it together for my daughters (10 and 6), is that an event to put on the schedule? Probably something like Harry Potter or Gremlins.

Cheers,

- Jim

I'm all in for more cookies.

We can put the movies on the schedule. When we work on the agenda, I'll send you a PM to check on the status of this and what movies you're planning to show. I think we have some other members with similar setups, too - we've definitely done it at other rallies on an ad-hoc basis. (I think they may have had a tent set up at last year's CKR with some movies playing.)

All this warm weather has given me such an urge to go camping. We are looking forward to seeing everyone. Who knows Nico may even be walking by then.

Tell me about it. I keep thinking we should go this weekend (alas we already have other plans).

Been working on getting Lulu ready. Did the "house cleaning", got a new mattress (oh thank you), waiting for new kitchen spigot ordered and few other little things. Can't wait to see everyone again!

We're looking forward to it, too!

For anyone that is thinking about coming, please have your reg form (or at least a count of people) to us by Wednesday, April 18 so we can get a total to the caterers.

We're working on an agenda that I'll send to the email address you gave us when you registered. I'll post here when I send it so that you'll know if I missed you. I'm not sure when we'll get it out, but I'm hoping this week or early next week at the latest.

Just got back from a great stay at Stone Mountain State Park outside Atlanta.

The folks that are having their rally there this weekend have chosen a wonderful location for a spring rally.

For me it was a work week with meetings all day long, but I did get to relax a little in the evenings next to the lake. It was great camping but just not the same as being with a group of Airstreamers who know how to have a good time together. I'm looking forward to tomorrow afternoon, meeting up with my wonderful friends in the Washington DC Unit.

Whew, what a weekend that was! It was great to see everyone, and the campground really came through with the tent for us. The food was great, and the company was even better.

It's hard work hosting a rally, but it's FUN hard work! I think everyone had a good time. I know we did.

Great job working our tent deal! We were WAY better off then we would have been otherwise. The dinner was also good. Now if we could get the KOA to help eliminate the group A, group B effect we always seem to have there...

I wish I could take credit for the tent, but that was all them. I honestly wasn't sure how we were going to deal with the problem, and I wasn't expecting much help from them. I was hoping a bunch of Easy-Ups would magically appear (we're buying one tomorrow). I can't imagine they made a lot of money off our group over the weekend with that expense! It just shows how much they want us back.

As for keeping us together, that is hard for them to do - the larger campers they get (the Class As and larger fifth wheels) simply can't use the lower sites, so the tendency is to put us down in the lower section (which was our initial thought when we planned the rally for last year). Also, if someone wants a pull-through they pretty much have to be up top. But there are enough of our group with larger rigs that have a tough time with the lower section, too - I'm sure you saw how precariously our trailer was perched in our site (we had at least four 34' trailers, for example). I really can't fault them for us being split up.

That said, there were some oddities. For example, Tom wanted the site we had last year, directly across from the pavilion, and they said it was reserved, but no one was there all weekend. Peg was told she was going to be in the lower section but then they put her right next to the Wilsons, which is really where she wanted to be in the first place.

I suspect all of the reservation issues (which also included the lack of the pavilion) had something to do with how the reservations were put in the system in the first place. Like perhaps they reserved all of the sites under my name instead of the group code, or something like that. The manager had mentioned it had been done by a former assistant manager, and we think he felt bad about the entire situation... hence, the tent, and hence him coming by every few hours to make sure everything was okay.

In summary, I know there were mistakes, but I can't help but feel like the campground handled them as best they could, and better than I expected. There are going to be mistakes from time to time, and it's how businesses handle those errors that separate them. I felt they handled it as well as they could.
