This is our Fifth (5th) year for this event. East TN Airstream Club sponsors this event along with the non-profit Guardians of the Gap. The intent is to bring excitement to a small town to help them thrive. We strive to keep the event fresh and add new things to do every year. Here’s what’s going on for 2025 (Full schedule is attached):
Vet School Tour. We will be touring the Veterinary School at nearby Lincoln Memorial University. It is one of the newest vet schools in the country and they have a joint venture with DeRoyal, a local medical-manufacturing company, to make silicon mock-ups of a device to train vet students in a certain medical procedure. We will visit the nearby large animal area in the beautiful countryside along the Cumberland Mountains. A unique experience. Limited to 20.
Tunnel Tour. We will take a rare behind-the-scenes tour of the Cumberland Gap Tunnel control center on the 2nd floor. Limited to 20.
Opening Night. After the opening-night meal (included in your rally fee) we will have an historian give a talk on local Civil War history and the history of the Gap.
Martin's Station Fort. We will take a short drive to the Wilderness Road State Park to visit the reconstructed Martin's Station Fort, nearby in Ewing, VA, to see their living history fort and talk to their craftspeople.
Gourmet Meal at the Olde Mill B&B. Back by popular demand, enjoy another homemade dinner served in the beautiful historic dining room at the B&B, but this year the theme is Greek (per a suggestion from last year). You will not be disappointed. Gourmet all the way. Additional charge. Limited to 40.
The Cruisin' the Crater car show will again be in downtown Middlesboro KY (just through the tunnel) with their antique and hot rod car show on Saturday. Yes, the town is actually built within a crater from a meteor. You can see the circle of mountains formed when it hit when you go up on the Pinnacle Peak observation deck and look down on the KY side.
Plus…all the other things that we have done in past years but chose not to emphasize this time such as: tour of Bell County Museum in nearby Middlesboro KY (through the tunnel) to learn more about “Crater City”; drive to visit Natural Tunnel State Park; tour the Lincoln Memorial Museum on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University; take a ghost tour; hike, hike, hike; visit Chained Rock for the views, ride your bikes on the bike trail through the two covered bridges and a pedestrian tunnel, and more!
