Old Time Fiddler's Special Event Rally

I wanted to express my graditude to the VA Unit of the WBCCI for sponsoring the Old Time Fiddler's Special Event Rally in Galax VA this past week that corresponded with the 75th Annual Old Time Fiddler's Convention. This is a world class competition showcasing the finest Old Time and Bluegrass musicians. The off stage jam sessions were the most fun! I look forward to next year!

We wanted so very much to attend the event this year after learning about it from various sources. We understand that the event is usually accompanied by rain and muddy grounds but it looks like you may have had wonderful weather this year. We also understand that the jam sessions around the trailers are the best part. Do you have any more details or possibly pictures to share?

I took a few fun pictures from the Fiddlers Convention this year with my backpacking (really low res) camera and when I figure out how to attach things would be glad to share them. I'm brand new to this forum, recommended by RSEagle while we were neighbors at the Rally. What a great Rally -- whoops I mean, it was terrible and you would hate it so don't sign up and -- just kidding. It was really great.

I'll post some pix as soon as I get them developed. Still no digital camera yet. Also, a correction: It was the 70th Annual Fiddler's Convention, not the 75th.

The hospitality extended by the Virginia Unit was inspiring. They really know all about Southern hospitality! The Old Fiddler's Convention itself was awesome! What talent! Watching and listening to the entrants in the competitions, young and old, was so much fun!

Sorry I missed the fiddler's convention. We plan to attend the bluegrass festival in Cherokee, NC starting Thursday this week.

Welcome, DreamStreamr! It's great news that we have a new forum member because another member invited you Kudos to rseagle~karma coming your way! The fiddling event would be something I'd love. Maybe we can wander that way next summer--even though neither of us plays a note or can keep a tune. But we love that sound! I'd enjoy camping in the middle of it all.
