I just received a cancellation notice from the campground. I called and checked with them. They are closing the campground for this weekend due to flooding. Not sure what this means for everyone. Someone else should confirm that this is fact.

Important Rally update

The COE will be closing the Thomson Causeway Park this weekend due to the possibility of flooding along the Mississippi River. The Rally will be relocated to Mississippi Palisades Park for Friday through Sunday.
Park Details are here:
https://www.dnr.illinois.gov/Parks/C...Palisades.aspx
Mike and Dana and Sue and I will be there Thursday night to catch any stragglers.
The park will be CLOSED Friday morning. It is recommended that you travel directly to the Palisades. Sites are available on a first come first served basis. We will try to gather near site 105.
Hope this doesn't impact your plans too badly.

See you at the Palisades,
Tom and Sue

Just a bit more technical info. (and a not so subtle thread bump)
Actionable” flood stage on this part of the River is 16 ft. NOAA predictions are that the River will reach 16.1 ft at 1:00 PM Friday May 4th.
The Palisades are about 15 miles north of Thomson and are reached by taking IL84 north through Savanna. The Park is about 2 miles north of Savanna.
A check of Reserve America found sites 88-104 appear to be available. Its recommended that you arrive early on Friday to secure a site with the group.

Tom

A great rally has come to an end. We had alot of excitement; we were asked to leave the Thomson Causway ! No, we were NOT bad, just the Mighty Mississippi and Mother showing their authority. The river is rising with flood at 15 feet, expected crest of 16, than 18 and now ????. Added to this, we had one night of sustained winds of about 50 MPH that lasted for about 3 hours. Also had about 2 inches of rain. Two of the 4 of us were backed up to the river. We had arrived on Wednesday with the balance to come on Friday. The were diverted to Palisades SP. We ended up with 17 units and 33 people. We enjoyed ourselves and packing for the next
rally.

Rally Recap

Well, I have to say this was one of the more interesting Rally's we've been to.

On Wednesday the word was out that The Mississippi River was going to rise above flood stage that weekend, the Park would be closed and we were going to have to find a new location for the Rally.
Mike and Dana scouted out a few spots and found that the Mississippi Palisades State Park, 15 miles north of Thomson, could handle the group.
There were 4 Airstreams gathered at Thompson on Thursday. That afternoon the Park personal loaded up all of our picnic tables and took them to higher ground. We decided that we might as well go out to eat dinner and found a good Mexican restaurant in Savanna.
Thursday night the weather front passed through the area and after some rain the winds picked up. Between 1 and 3 AM the trailers by the river were literally rocking and rolling with sustained winds between 30-50 MPH.
Friday morning we found the River had risen about another foot. After a quick breakfast we packed up and assembled a mini Caravan heading up-river to the Palisades.
As we pulled in we found 2 Airstreams that were unaware of the Rally and were invited to come on down. The rest of the rigs arrived Friday and Saturday for a total of 15 trailers.
Friday night we were treated to table full of Sloppy Joe sandwiches, chips, various side dishes and desserts.
Saturday the weather was beautiful, drying out the campground and setting the stage for the days events. Dana set out a great breakfast with coffee, homemade sausage-cheese biscuits, hard boiled eggs, and fruit with the rest of the group bringing donuts and pastries. Everyone set off to explore on their own or relax during the afternoon The River was still rising with many of the islands covered with water. Saturday evening about half of the group stayed in camp and grilled dinner with the rest going down to eat at Poopy's, a popular destination for bikers and bands.

Sunday morning was another fine breakfast featuring dutch oven oatmeal topped with butter pecan ice cream, and your choice of fruit toppings and brown sugar. As always, there was the usual array of leftovers from the day before to nibble on through the morning.
Most of the group filtered out during the day with a few staying over.

Once again I would like to thank Mike and Dana for hosting a Rally that could have ended before it began. All of your hard work paid off with a season opening event that was fun for everyone attending. Thanks.

See you down the road,
Tom

The next Rally is at Lake Le Aqua Na in Lena Illinois. Check out the Calendar link at the top of the page or our web page at:
