NM Unit White Sands NM Rally 2011
We just returned from the Second Annual NM Unit White Sands National Monument Rally. "Awesome" has been trivialized by overuse, but this was an "Awesome Airstream Adventure."

How cool! I wish we could have made it! (Alas, we were hosting an SOB rally here, so no way to get away.) Thank you for sharing the pics!

Did they allow you to camp inside the Monument? Sure wish they had a campground here. A little off-topic, but is anyone planning on visiting the Trinity Site in the spring? I think we are going to try to go, and will plan a day trip to White Sands.

Ken, great pics. My being from South Carolina makes that place look like the far side of the moon! Gonna join you one of these days. John

Tent camping is allowed inside the monument but no RV camping... except Airstreams! Our host made a first time ever, special arrangement for an Airstream Rally last year (March 2010), on a trial basis with many special rules including drip pans under all vehicles and Airstreams. We were welcomed back this year.
There is no campground. Just a big "playa" or dry lake bed.
It was perhaps the best rally we've ever attended, except perhaps the rally we had on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in 2005. That was dry camping.

More Rally Pictures...
Just found the spare camera and uploaded its pictures.
Sleepy Airstream Dog and Last Evening at the Rally
(Towels on the floor were a feeble attempt to control some of the "White Sand" we were tracking in.

Ken,
Thanks for the pictures! This looks like a great rally. Jan and I would love to attend next year so we will keep an eye out for it.
I understand that there are very strict regulations about protecting the ground; how does that work with pets?

Dogs are welcome. Dog poop is not.
If they poop, you gotta scoop.
Dog pee is okay
