Hi DavidH, we will have fun!!! This group is great!!! Nicest bunch of people I ever met. A few of us are going to Pennsylvania before this rally and that should be fun also.

Too excited
David,
I'm really looking forward to it. My first "official" get together with other Airstream owners! You could always come too....
I was out your way in 2002. Great area, and I hope to go through there again soon, this time with my Airstream.
Rich

Kayaking
And for those of you kayak lovers, we just purchased our second kayak and would love to have a group join us on Saturday! There is a marsh area at the entrance of Salisbury Beach, where we plan to launch our kayaks.

Can novice males participate in the Backing and Maneuvering seminars? BTW we stopped at Salisbury Beach Reservation this Saturday on our way to NH ... it was so windy and cold. Can't wait until April.

If it isn't going to be too windy we will bring the canoe if the tide charts look OK. Don't want to be going the wrong way when it's going out.

Attached is the tide chart for the mouth of the Merrimack River during our rally dates...at first glance it looks like the tides are in our favor. For example, on Saturday morning the low tide is at 7:15 am. So just after breakfast would be a good time to head out as the incoming tide won't be too strong yet. Then in the late morning, the incoming high tide will help carry us back to our launch point. We would just need to make sure we are back between 1:30 and 2:30PM before the low tide "pull" starts up again.

That wasn't a good maneuver as the low-tide muck was like quicksand and I was actually sucked into the muck up to my knees. Thank goodness I wasn't kayaking alone!
I would recommend we launch closer to the river and stay out of the maze! It is beautiful but dangerous.

WARNING
as a native of this neighborhood, I feel I must post this PSA about boating in the area. do not go into the river, unless you really really really know what you're doing, and are super-aware of the tides. The Merrimac has one of the most dangerous currents on the eastern seaboard. On the outgoing tide, a paddle-driven craft could easily be swept out to sea faster than you can say "Wally Byam".
I used to go sailing out there as a kid, in these small little boats...we'd need to have a motorized escort with us all the time, because the only way we could get back to the marina was by being towed. It was impossible to go upstream, even with a stiff seabreaze blowing straight up river. (and we weren't even in the channel, where the REAL current is...which, unmarked on Paul's map, runs very close to the shores of the State Park.) We used to get a kick out of "hovering"...set up the boat so that it was going full-tilt upstream...yet not actually moving, matching its forward speed to the speed of the opposing current. we'd just sit there and bob like a cork in the waves...but under full sail a lot of the time, we'd be moving backwards.
anyway....just be carefull.
