How smart is my GPS?
Which exit off of I-91 is the best one to use to get to Bald Mountain Campground? (1 or 3)
I seem to recall a covered bridge and some bumpy roads causing a little concern last time.

I would get off Exit 2. Exit 1 takes you through the center of Brattleboro. One intersection in particular will be hell while towing. Going to exit 3 would involve a bit of back tracking to Brattleboro OR taking the back roads with the covered bridge.
Cedar street is a side road, but can accommodate our rigs well enough.
Here is what google says from Hartford.
from:Hartford, CT to:42.851177,-72.579031 to:1760 State Forest Road Townshend, VT 05353 - Google Maps

I usually take 1...or 2, for a change of pace, perhaps. I don't know which intersection Skip thinks is "hell"...haven't experienced that. Backups at the lights can be annoying, I guess. I haven't taken Cedar street w/ the trailer in tow; that switch-back where it meets Rt. 30 is rather steep. that troubles me more than downtown Brattelboro. I just go straight out to 30 if I'm going that way.
3 is fine, too, IF you come south to B-boro, take a right on Park Pl, and another onto 30. You don't want to go up over Dummerston Mountain w/ a trailer in tow. very steep and white-knuckly. OTOH...the covered bridge is always fun. (Map programs and gps's don't pay any attention to terrain, it seems; they're only thinking in "2-D").

Thanks!
Cedar St. to 30 looks kinda interesting. Have you made this turn with your rig?

No. It's been about three years since I've been up there. I recall that turn not being as bad as it looks on the map.
From Google Earth ....
Not very good view, but looks like a lot of room.

I recall it being much worse than it looks on the map, which, like the sattelite pic, is "2D", and doesn't show how steep it is. 30 is plenty wide enough to make the turn; its not the "turn" that I'm worried about.

hmmmm .... I do not remember that elevation change ...... Might have to rethink and try an remember how I always got around Brattleboro during the Cow Parade.
perhaps I took Forrest to Chase to Rte 30. That is residential. That's it. I'm just going to go 91N, exit 2, left onto High Street (rte.9), left onto Main Street (rte. 5), left onto Park Street, right onto Rte 30.
I do not like the intersection of Rte5 and Rte119 w/o my trailer, so I'll avoid it with.

A word about the Common Quiche Contest-we would appreciate all and many entries as we are eating the entry's for breakfast!!!
If you don't enter we will have no choice but to make you a judge AND judges must wear the official judges hat and trust me they are doozies!!!!!!!!!!
You may not want to go there so break out the eggs, cheese and your secret ingredients.

We all took the Cedar St. route last year on the way to the R1R. It's not as bad as it looks and it does miss all the traffic in downtown Brattleboro.
Trust me Chuck
PS....wish we could join you guys!!!!

I didn't say it was impassable; but having gone by there hundreds of times over the last 40+ years, I do have a very clear pic in my mind of that intersection and roadway, which is not clearly depicted by a 2d map or satellite pic.
If you don't like the foot of main street, well...there's a whole lot less to like about chase street...especially with a longer, lower slung trailer.

Thanks Robin, Richard, Christine and Jeff!! We had such a good time.
I just finished cleaning and seasoning the dutch oven and the cast iron hot dog cooker. I then took a shower and I could smell campfire being washed away. I'm kinda sad about that. I look forward to seeing you four sometime soon.
Thanks again!!

Great time!
Thanks to the hosts for such a well planned and FUN event. Thanks to LoydBonafide for such a great light shown and all the people that attended for such a fun and relaxed rally (and all the people that fixed up my finger and donated first aid kit items ---feeling much better!)
