Cottonwood should not be a problem. It is high desert and not alot of trees. If any tarantulas were in the area, the rattle snakes would get them.

ah, right. i'm not creeped out by much besides ticks (eee! eee! EEEE!) but there IS the "startle" factor. I certainly jumped when I encountered a huge but harmless bull snake stretched across some willow saplings at eye level once. And completely panicked while staying in an old stone house in southwestern France & a scorpion slithered out of the toe of my sneaker as I went to put it on one morning. (I yanked all the covers off the bed, wrapped up the shoe & threw the whole mess out a second-story window.) To this day, whether in a Westin hotel in Seattle or napping on my own couch, I shake out my shoes before putting them on!

so if we bring some tarantulas along will they attract snakes?

flamingo kid1 gave me a tarantula at the midwest rally this year...
she now travels with me in the airstream...

i'd post a picture, but they are nocturnal and she's hiding somewhere...

the spider of course...

cheers

Ok

Alright you guys, they do climb trees, I saw it, and we all know that sometimes they fall. lol While I'm not a big fan of snakes, was bitten once on the nose by a gopher snake, spiders still give me the heebee geebees. Just ask Going Campin, I must see the "dead" body when he kills them. I'll be the first to admit, part of my fears are irrational but nonetheless... I'm just disappointed that my spider senses were also on vacation. I can usually spot them a mile away.

well, there IS a species that builds webs & eats birds, but they are limited to south america. i was not aware, however, that spiders routinely fall out of trees.

Hi Goin and Crkwolf,

Talk about tarantulas!..I got to see my very own one while walking around the trail to the Lake..Steve told me they can jump, but only after I had gotten within 4 ft. trying to get close enough to shoot it (w/my dig. camera)

I've been working on the name tags, Milo..I'm making one for each member who has his or her own username..do you and Karen want your own?

Yes, we'd like our own. I think name tags will help.

I talked to the ranger at the park today and increased the number of spots we will need. We now have a lock on the entire group site!.

I had a question from a few people who will be getting to the park a day or two early and staying a few extra days as well. You can setup in the group site and stay as long as you pay the park for the additional days. Remember this is dry camping. A rest room is located at the loop and showersa are located their also. Generators are permitted in the group site except during quiet hours (10pm to 8am). Water is available as well as a dump station inside the park.

Post any questions you have and I will get you an answer!

I also found out that my flyfishing club has rented the site the weekend before this one. Maybe I should just stay up at the park all week

more fun than a barrel of tarantulas

man! you folks are crackin me up. this will be our first rally. being "ugly stepchildren" in our Argosy we were having some trepidations... the dialog in this thread has reduced that. We used to go to some snotty car rallies and didn't fit in.
the tarantula thing.... whilst in graduate school, a biologist friend of mine was doing research on tarantulas. We hunted them at night out in the Superstition mountains. They were docile and nearly impossible to perturb into an attack. They are prone to attacking each other but humans are not eddible.
we're not typically organization joiners so all of the membership stuff is somewhat daunting
can someone point me to the info as to where to send the rally fees?

thanks

Mike

Please do not have any worries about this rally. It's a kick back event. I have been working on the schedual of events and it is mostly, do your thing! We will have 2 atitude adjustments (social hour), 1 pot luck dinner and an open house (check out the trailer) period.

I have been working on a few gifts from some venors which will be given away at the pot luck. I think we will also have a very brief info of the club officers as well during the pot luck. I have been working on my speech. What do you think?

Quote:
Hello everyone. My name is Richard and I am the unit secretary. This is my wife Jan (pointing to Jan). I would like to thank everyone who came out and made this event a real success.
As far as the fees go, Fill out this form and send it to me . My information is on the form.

Don't worry, This is not a snotty group. Everyone I have met and/or camped with has been funny and friendly. Actually your Argosy will get lots of attention because many have not been in one.
