If the Charter is not approved, I say we adopt the suggestion that has been forwarded for photo rallies (rallys looks better to me, but I was never a strong speller), eg, someone says "let's gather at so-and-so on date such-and-such". (notwithstanding previous comments about liability, etc.) This is the right group of people and we ought not let something as [silly small inconsequential bureaucratic stiffling] get in the way of a like-minded getting together.

hi richard,

thanks for hosting this upcoming rally at dead horse. sorry about the weather this past weekend @ 29 palms in so. calif. 19, is pretty cold for us... great that we got such support from the arizona folks. you guys rock, and the californians hope that we can be there for you as well.

you know that check i sent you, could you hold on to it for an extra week or so? i'm a little short.

couple questions that i meant to ask you, but you know, as the offical twentynine palms rally greeter, the time just flew. who knew?

is there a dress code for the pot luck? as you know at twentynine palms, it was black tie and stictly enforced. may i lower the unit's standards and dress western? how do you feel about this?

who is the official greeter for this rally? i'd like to prepare a little something special.

sorry to be so full of questions.... i'll make this as brief as possible.

would you know where the nearest Naval Air Station is in regards to dead horse? i'm thinking of having my TV & AS forward deployed. say within 30 min.s or less, i'm not into a long drive. although i have use of a Hercules C130 so a short landing strip, either dirt or hard top would work in a pinch.

last question, at twentynine palms this last weekend we had organized a group for looting ancient indian burial grounds. anything close by? have you got someone working on this activity?

thanks in advance,

kevbo

kevbo,
You crack me up! BTW, you did not greet us at 29 Palms! I guess because of the weather your pilot was flying IFR (I Follow Roads) and caused you to miss some of the earlier arrivals.

Greeters will be my wife Jan and I, but mostly Jan.

The C130 thing is going to be a tough one. No runways to support such an operation in the area. Have you been HALO certified?

Pot Luck attire. It was great seeing everyone in black tie at the Palms, but this is Arizona! We tend to be a bit more kicked back on such things. The theme for the weekend is "It's Optional". Dress acordingly

Lootin. If you don't mind, I'll let you run with that one. Tuzigoot National Monument is just down the road from the park and should offer you what you seek..
Quote:
Tuzigoot is an ancient village or pueblo built by a culture known as the Sinagua. The pueblo consisted of 110 rooms including second and third story structures. The first buildings were built around A.D. 1000. The Sinagua were agriculturalists with trade connections that spanned hundreds of miles. The people left the area around 1400. The site is currently comprised of 42 acres.

Kevbo,
I want to know where that C130 will pick you up in Simi Valley? The Airport closed off Tapo in about 1980!!! I landed there once before we moved the Airplane off Moorpark Road just below the Reagan library for awhile and finally Camarillo. Marine One landed there but never a C130 even.

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up as to what to expect at the rally. Kevbo stands out in a crowd and is a lot of fun to be around. He will be the tallest, best dressed cowboy at the rally.

high richard and jan,

thanks for the quick response, that's what i love about people from AZ, there so on top of everything, like all the time.

as you know, my head is so large, it creates it's own weather system, so sure, the halo is big and certifiable. i'll work out the Hercules C130 details. i have one of the few airstreams with the optional rear 'chute deployment systems (was only available in '05 and only on certain FFA CCD's), so we'll do the squat 'n drop. coming in a day early, so i'm thinking space 210 would be good. thinking i'll need about 800 feet to bring the TV and AS to safe stop at that location. please advise any early arrivials to not be overly alarmed if they spot a low flying C130. it's just kevbo dropping in. i work on the exit strategy as well.

in regards to the greeters position, it is a lot of work, sorry i missed you, i may have been busy w/ the discovery camera crew that stopped by 29 palms, or helping out people with problems, at space 171. the job does pay well, so you got that working for you.

thanks, for dropping the black tie rule for the pot luck, i wasn't sure if i could get all my attire back from the drycleaners in time. your a life saver. so i'm going western. you guys are kicked back and well, thanks.

as far as the looting goes, i was limited today by the cargo master at USMC Twentynine Palms to just 800 lbs. of additional "cargo", so i guess, i'll "strike out", on my own. you know the only problem w/ looting is everybody wants you to take it over the border for them. i'm going to be severly limited on the return flight weight wise, so it's each man for himself.

thanks,

glad you guys made it home safe,

kevbo

i depart Naval Air Station Oxnard. i've emailed my brother (the other general), for assistance. i live on a ranch just below the reagan library on rambling road, in simi valley. ventura county is red, so i should fit right in with you folks from AZ.

Airforce one now uses NAS Oxnard, however this is classified information. please refer to the yet to be completed four corners charter. may i remind you that page 982, section 29, paragraph 12 clearly states "no member shall divulge classified information before or during the attitude adjustment hour". please, i beg you, do your homework, i'm not just another pretty face.

i'm not concerned about the arrival, squat n' drop works for me. my brother has suggested that a USMC heavy lift chopper for departure would work well, so again, i'm staying a day later, please don't be alarmed by the noise.

thanks for the concern.

Too funny, Pt Mugu was the place of choice 20 years ago. Oxnard AFB became a civil airport too and the housing area was a great place to meet fellow gang members. They all had Airstreams lined up, or were those P3's I forget. Oxnard NAS was a bunch of Sea-bees but a rocking NEX and commissary, lol. Hey, your brother should trade his general status for vice admiral or at least commodore so us retired warrants would know to salute him.

randy, i beg you, if your an early arrival, do not set up in spaces 200 - 210. i can't be held liable for a miss placed "drop", and please reread the charter regarding classified information. see an earlier post for the exact 6,000 pages of prose, to "in jest".

richard, i'm sensing hostility here, so un AZ. he's bagged on my brother, me, and the Sea-Bee's. what's next? mom and apple pie?. please, please, do not reveal the secret four corners handshake to this fellow. he may be a shill for "some other brand".

where is doorgunner when you need him?

Cow or Horse Works

sorry to barge in again, i can see how busy everybody is cuttin, splittin and stacken there home grown for the rally.

quick question, hoping maybe some locals can help me out...

i generally only buy my beer at establishments that have a cow on the roof. however i know how over senistive some AZ'ers can get, so i'd settle for a horse or horses on the roof.

could anyone point me in the right direction for such a place close to the dead horse rally? say, within 30 min.s or less?, not a big driver here.

my horses, lightning and thunder, prefer regular coors, the ta-kill-ya is for the seven foot cowboy. (please, lightning has a drinking problem, so at the rally, all beverages are to be served to the horses during daylight hours only, and please, ONLY if they behave. they were a wreck in twentynine palms. the children kept over-beveraging the critters).

thanks in advance (my second rally),

DEAR MR. WHOPPER:

PLEASE REFER TO POST #132

i'm taking issue w/ the whole door prize issue. everyone please pull out your under read and often misused four corners charter. page 5,005, paragraph 13, subsection C, lines 78 thru 91.

under the chapter heading: "rights and privilages"

i'll quote directly: "if a former rally greeter objects for any reason, it must be true".

and the charter goes on to read...

"a properly loaded AS (including but not limited to; two equines and one seven foot cowboy) shall be so equiped upon arrival w/ beverage, cowboy grub, and #1 alfalfa, as to withstand dry camping for a min. of 40 days and nights".

well clearly, in the 90 second business meeting to be held at 3am saturday morning in deadhorse, the agenda item shall be amended to read "beverages w/ a min. alcohol content of 5%, unless, the equines prefer a higher %, then they shall be so provided". can i get a second?

must i continue?

Oh, no! Last time I discharged the spud gun was in the Marriott Marina in San Diego and I swear the cops arrived within minutes....but we were off the boat and into the gas lamp district in less than a minute! Ha!

Even better is the flaming tennis ball gun fired down the hall at drunks coming out of the bar. Of course, they were a little jumpy anyway since the reason they were drunk is they were being shot at every time they went up to enjoy at little flying time, way back in 1971...

Fair warning to the FCU

Kevbo is not joking about the airlift.

He arrived in 29 Palms via a squat and drop on Amboy Rd. It scared the snot outta everyone. We were impressed though that when he released the chute he was doin the speed limit with his blinker on to turn into the park. Very impressive.

Awesome.....I joked about the lift from Simi because I grew up there. What a town. I don't need the secret hand-shake I guess since I can't make the trip this time but maybe next year. It's not out of range.

As a kid they used to let us "fly" in their WWII surplus flight trainer.
