I just got back from another run down to Tucson and stopped at the park on the way back. The area was locked but from what I could see it is a great rally site. If you arrive early they will let us stay in the loop if no one else has reserved it. No one has reserved it before us yet. The closest firewood looks like it might be Mariana which is about 15 miles down the road, however the park sells bundles for $5 and if we pass the hat we should be good to go. One interesting thing is located on the entrance road to the park. It's the Arizona Nut House. It's kind of fitting, don't you think?

Looks like that sign might burn.
I have a bunch of wood from two trees that went down this year. I'll toss it in the truck.

Early arrivals part #2
There is one parking/trailer site we need to leave open. It is the first site in the first parking area (most SW) as you enter the quail loop. It has the only standard RV electrical hookup box. It is reserved for people with disabilities and probably won't be energized anyway. We can get it turned on by the rangers if we have an attendee that needs it. Also when I opened the box to check it out a tarantula in there was as surprised as I was. So open any electrical boxes in the ramadas carefully. One other request is to leave the site open at the opposite end of the first area for yours truly the rally hosts. Less then a week away!!! Yeehah!

Besides Silverback and Motoman I'm not sure if there are other Hams coming to the Rally? I'll moniter 146.520 from time to time and see? I expect to arrive on the afternoon/evening of the 27th travelling from Blythe, CA that day.

National Simplex?
Peter,
Instead of monitoring the National Simplex freq., why not try monitoring some of the CA/AZ repeaters?
NM is fortunate to have the Mega-Link, a connection of about 30 repeaters on various mountain tops. Connect to any one and you can talk/listen to almost the entire state.
Likely CA & AZ have something similar.

We ave plenty of garden hose. The copper pipes are getting a little thin, but they still have a few rallies left.
It looks like we will get to the rally on Saturday morning. We had hoped to get out of town on Friday, but Jan has to work. Rather then fight the Phoenix traffic and then arrive and setup in the dark, we will head out early on Saturday morning and see you then!
Please everyone, have a safe trip to the park!

The trucks loaded and the dogs goin goofy so I guess we'll leave for Slab City. If any of you want to join us there until we leave for the park on the 29th. We'll be in area 17. Look for the Airstream with the "TIN CABN" license plate.

TV reception at Picacho??
I wonder if it might be possible to get the Saturday night football game at the park. Also, I don't want to miss the Amazing Race on Sunday night. Does anyone know about reception at Picacho?

TV reception
Mike,
We will be in a vast open area closer to Tucson then Phoenix. I think we should be able to receive over the air broadcasts from one of the network stations showing "the game". We're closer to Casa Grande and Florence so maybe we'll get lucky and pickup a rural translator on a mountain top. Who has satellite?
See you tomorrow,
Ken

Mike, Are we talking about New England vs New York Giants or one of the bowl games?

Ken: Sounds good. Now all we need is power for the TV. BTW, we won't be able to get to Picacho until after noon on Saturday.
Richard: The Pats as they go for the record of course. BTW, I once worked for a 9-person company owned by the founding owner of the Patriots.

As a long time Giants fan, I will hope for an upset. The only thing on the line for this game is the record. A lot of folks in Miami will be puling for my guys also.

Richard,
I too was a Giants fan. While growing up in Boston in the '50s and early '60s, they were the nearest team and all the games were shown on TV. They also had real football players with great names like Huff, Katcavage, and Robustelli. And who could forget the play of Gary Wood and Pete Gogolak? Alas, the greats are no longer there.

I'm leaving shortly. Keep 'em cold for me. I'm referring to the drinks and not the nights.

Have FUN you guys. Wish we could be there. We'll spend the time watching snow obliterate our lawns and driveway.
Happy New Year.
