EL Norteno at 6415 Zuni SE noted for "soft taco heaven", not for the squeamish cabrito (goat), lengua (tongue) and tasty barbacoa. Their web site lists alibi magazine's best Mexican restaurant winner 1999-2005 (last year of the contest) and Friday is free Ceviche; open 10AM till 9 PM.
M & J Sanitary Tortilla Factory (Restaurant) at 403 Second SW noted for their carne adovada, chiles rellenos and stuffed sopaipillas! M & J's has received the presidential nod of approval from more than one President of the United States.
With these recommendations and the listing in my guide they seem like must eat places to me.
BTW, "Eat Your Way ..." also list Old Smoky's Restaurant (pancake house) in Williams, AZ. Their supposed to be open at 6 AM. Great for an early start towards Grants, NM. "Eat Your Way ..." didn't list anything for Grant, NM.

In this case size does not matter - unless you are going to park at our house - then smaller is better. You should have lots of company if you bring your 32 footer....

M & J Sanitary Tortilla Factory - CLOSED
The M & J Sanitary Tortilla Factory was a great ABQ restaurant for decades. Sadly, they have closed their doors.

Garduno's
I think there is a Garduno's right at the south end of the balloon field.

It's just that the nearest decent taco joint is, surprisingly, in Montrose...Taco Riendo...What passes for mexican food in Silverton is by restaurant name, ONLY...Romero's...besides, if I lived in ABQ, I wouldn't be a 'tourist', but I WOULD know a good joint or two

Balloon field & map of nearby restaurants & shooting range
Here is a Microsoft map of
Balloon field & map of nearby restaurants & shooting range
http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&ss=yp.Calibers&cp=35.180228~-106.597853&style=r&lvl=14&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=483822&&cid=D894FB6FDC3BA416!184&encTyp e=1
These are not the best restaurants, just the nearby ones. By the way, Microsoft doesn't really know
where Gardunos is located. In reality, it is at the South end of the Balloon Field.
The huge influx of people for Balloon Fiesta and the crush of traffic makes going out
to restaurants less than desireable. It will take awhile to get anywhere and when you
arrive, plan on a long line.
Think about bringing food and eating on location!

mr 'stream,
i'm sorry, but anyone who lives on "the" blvd; has got ot be in the know... considering that i've never been arrested, have a penchant for dive bars (preferably w/ my own kind), is there something close by for me? do tourists really hang out at dive cowboy bars? where i live the hells angles are likely to eatem for lunch (did you know bikers and cowboys are compatable?)... can i walk to a place or be close by? escorted against my will? public transport? a dive bar shuttle? perhaps a kind sole who doesn't drink (like a fish) could drive...
just askin...
