ms wanda,
i have a semi truck w/ a 50 foot trailer from my office follow me around.
it's sooooo much easier that way...
and it's green (the practice, not the truck, it's red)
that way, if you run outa something, my guys just refill it...
i keep an ice maker, dish washer and small power plant in the truck as well.

Excellent.
May I run my extra long power cod to your rig?
It makes the blender work better.
Thank you.

Hi there Ken.
Any word on what happens if it's raining (hard)?
Can soggy balloons still take off?
I'm heading to New Mexico come heck or high water...
just wondering.
Thanks.

Balloons and rain do not mix. See fun fact #5.
Quote:
Some Fun Facts about Hot Air Balloons....- Balloon pilots need a commercial pilot's license (fixed-wing). They must have at least 35 hours of flight instruction, attend ground school for basic aviation training, pass a written test for hot-air balloons and have a flight check from a Federal Aviation Administration official.
- According to the FAA, balloons must meet air-traffic control requirements if they are in a controlled air-space, and pilots must have radio contact with controllers.
- There are no official safety requirements for passengers, but passengers should know with whom they're flying and their qualifications.
- Accidents are rare, especially in the Northwest. The only serious injuries for the area -- found in a check of National Transportation Safety Board balloon accident reports back to 1984 -- were a broken leg and a broken ankle, both from rough landings.
- Hot air balloons don't fly in the rain because balloon heat can cause water to boil atop the balloon, and boiling water destroys the fabric.
- Area balloon operators can carry from two to 10 passengers at a time, depending on balloon size.
- Children under 5 usually aren't allowed.
- Ballooning is not a silent sport. There are some quiet moments, but those burners are noisy.
- Balloonists dress like hikers: Pants, sturdy flat shoes and layers of shirt, sweater, jacket, for example. Carry cameras and lots of film.

Ms soggy bottom Bam,
Since Mr Kevbo has graciously allowed me the spot on the beach under the New Mexico state tree near the docks, reataurant(take-out or dine-in), with the prevailing wind favorable to no port-a-potty admingling of air, I am bringing the USS SCREAMING EAGLE, lest you had forgotten this early thread item...there should be room for all...mike

the rain plan?
Ideas for what to do with your frustration if after driving hundreds of miles, the balloons are rained out (not likely)
Pack your iron.

It has rained during balloon fiesta - though it has been rare.
Very early in the morning they have a pilots meeting and send up a balloon to check out the conditions - if its too windy or raining, they will either hold off or cancel the mass take off. Last year on the second weekend (we are the first) they did have to put off take off one day, but after about 1 hour, they did take off.

Ken,
Not everyone reads Airforums. You might send out an e-mail to the FCU member/associate list.

Boondocking and the Chill...
it's WAY to early to say what the weather will or will not be whilst at the Gas Fiesta, or for that matter in route to or in route from, i thought maybe i should make a list...
list:
save battery power (only have 4 banks of 16 battries aboard)
run the 10 megawatt nuke gen set as little as possibe (do you have any idea what fuel rods are running these days?)
going to be doing a lot of boondocking, coming, during and going from the GAZ FEST, and considering the bizare weather of late (my polar bear in the back corral is sheading like krazy)
i decided to add a little cat heater, and a few disposable propane bottles (very green) just to take the chill off whilst diddleing around in the 'dream stream...
kevbo
ps the fabric softner is for my Carhartts (like all 16 of them)... they can be itchy...

I am still trying to figure out who is going to be where and when.
- Who is going to be in Williams on the night of the 3rd?
- Is anyone else (besides me) going to join the I-40 Caravan in Flagstaff on the morning of the 4th?
- Is anyone else joining us in Grants, NM on the night of the 4th?
- Is everyone else meeting at Camping World on the morning of the 5th?
