Just take one bottle of wine up with you instead of two and you're good to go...

It's hardly worth leaving the ground with only one bottle. How about leaving the shoes, or the wallet, even the pants. Not the wine!

Lets see - I like the wine idea! If I take two bottles and drink one after I get in the basket but before we take off, we would be one bottle of wine lighter and all should be well

Balloon rides
Seriously now, I would like to have a ride during our stay. Has anyone done that at the event?

I've not done that - but rides are available - contact Rainbow Ryders, Inc 1-800-725-2477 or hot air balloon, Balloon Rides-Ryders Hot Air Balloon Company of Albuquerque, New Mexico. They are listed as the official balloon ride operator.

Coming in from the North
Been rereading the posts again. We are spending time in CO in mid-Sept, stopping in Taos and Santa Fe a week or so prior to arriving at the balloon fiesta. Any suggestions on places to stay in or around Tacos and Santa Fe? Looking forward to meeting everyone in Alburquerque. Anyone coming in from the North on I25 Friday morning??

I am not familier with anything in Taos
Santa Fe - the neatest place is Hyde state park - but is small and only has elec hookups - the KOA is ok and lots of Airstream folks stay at Santa Fe skys. Region 11 had a rally there last year -

Then there is....
Hello all -
Really am sad I won't be here for the BFR.... What an opportunity missed - for me.
For those that coming into the area a bit sooner and looking for nice places... Lynn - ASF member, has a campground in the area of Angel Fire..? Not trying to send anyone anywhere, but then ASF's is a terrific networking tool... and staying with a streamer sounds good to me. Lynn, can you help with info here? since I'm asking...!!!
If I were still in town then, I'd be there AND offering Courtesy Parking as well.... but.... well.... not to be.... have a bottle (or 2) for me, will ya?
Peace out...
Axel

Gail and I have our reservations for both the Wednesday Williams and the Thursday Grant RV parks with the FCU Will probably not stay in Barstow with the group but make a rolling link with the caravan some where along I-40 west of Needles.

Max says HI!!!!
Don & Gail -
How are you all doing??!? Hoping well.
We here are all well. Hectic as we prepare for a move out date on 7/13. WE pack the truck and then it is 'gone' - truly gone. Then we have only what we can carry - for cross country!
Naturally, there is SilverToy. So glad that we have the mobile appartment travelling along with us. Make life SO much more livable.
Max just shot by on his way to brushing his teeth and said HI! as he went by.....
All the best!

Page and I will be coming from the north, probably, as we plan to drift down from Utah - Moab/Canyonlands area. Keep posting ideas as time gets nearer - it's a pleasure to think about this trip.

Axel, tell Max we said hello. We are busy but doing great. We picked up a used parts donor for our 1960 18 Footer in March, a 1959 26' Overlander that had rolled on its side. In April we took 2 weeks to attend a Sierra Nevada Unit Rally in Reno and then visit Arches and Canyonlands National Park with our neighbors. May brought two motorcycle trips, one to Heber, AZ and one to Big Bear City, CA. This past weekend I managed a 24 hour emergency exercise for amateur radio although the total time at the site for setup, operation and tear down was 51 hours. Next month we go out for a week and a half with our grandson and our niece visitng from Ohio to another SNU rally near Mammoth Lakes, CA and then travel to Az and Abiquiu, NM to visit my sister and her family at a conference at the Ghost Ranch. Will stop and see as many national parks and monuments as time allows. Will "likely" attend another SNU rally near Bridgeport, CA, provide emergency communications at an off road race in NV and then relax in September before we head out for the Balloon festival.
Where are you moving to? Cross country? I seem to remember that you live near Santa Fe, NM. Is that correct? NM seems like a really neat place to live, but it would be hard for us to move there as long as our kids are in CA.

Jan and I will be leaving Phoenix on Thursday morning and spending the night in Grants. Since Williams is about 40 miles in the wrong direction for us, maybe we could meet up with the group in Flagstaff. When we get closer to the date we can figure out a plan to pickup the AZ folks along the road.

I look forward to meeting you at the rally. If your first day is Friday, why not join up with the caravan across I-40.

On the road communications
Y'all need to swap cell phone numbers to keep in touch while on the road.
CB radios can also be useful because you can communicate with everyone in the caravan simultaneously. Need to have an external antenna to get decent range however. Suggest using Ch 14 because it is the channel recommended by WBCCI.

The cell numbers are a must have, but I am CBless. How would FRS radios work? We use them when camping and can get a range of over a mile.
