Four Corners Unit 4th Annual New Year's Rally

The Fourth Annual 4CU New Years Rally at Picacho Peak State Park is coming right up! Mark your calendars for Thursday, December 30, 2010 to Sunday, January 2, 2011 (check out before 2 PM)! Early arrivals are welcome beginning Wednesday, December 29th.

Picacho Peak State Park is in Arizona, right off I-10, about half way between Phoenix and Tucson. The closest town is Eloy, AZ, situated between Casa Grande and Tucson.

We will rally in the Quail group area, which has electricity in the Ramada; water is available, and there is a large group fire-ring for our New Year’s Eve Bonfire. We'll be providing champagne to ring in the New Year! There will be a hike up the Peak (optional, of course!), a Dessert Cook-Off (Dutch Oven treats encouraged but not required), a White Elephant Gift Exchange, games, evening Happy Hours, at least one Potluck dinner, and some time to just sit back and relax in the mild Arizona winter weather!

The Quail Group site is dry camping - no hookups. But we will have full access to the modern showers and restrooms at the regular campgrounds, which is also where we can use the dump station and water.

We have paid the $35 to reserve the group site. Your cost is $15 a night per trailer, payable to the Ranger when you arrive and check in.

All activities are optional of course, and we will maintain an informal schedule! What to bring?
  • Food & drinks for potlucks, dessert bake-off, and snacks
  • Firewood for group fire-ring
  • Cash (dollars) for games and raffle tickets
  • A wrapped White Elephant Gift
  • Warm clothes, including hats & gloves, for possible cold evening temperatures
  • Sturdy shoes & gloves if planning to hike to the Peak!

This is a Four Corners Unit Rally and is open to all WBCCI members. Anyone who is not a member will have to be a guest (we’ll work with you on this!).

Co-hosted once again by the fabulous Louis & Sergio and Ken & Linda, this rally is a welcome retreat from the hectic holiday season in a lovely Sonoran Desert environment, and a great way to start off the New Year! We hope to see you around the campfire!

Wow I just noticed the rally post was my 666th forum post. I really can't wait for this rally now.

Anyway... we plan to get there on Tuesday with the Motorhome (I may have to commute to work from there). Hope to see all our 4C-Unit friends and guests. So clear the snow out of your driveways early!
Ken

I do have some sad news to report for those attending this year... Unfortunately the Arizona Nut House has closed, but on a positive note, the building is up for lease or sale if anyone is interested in some prime real estate. I noticed this a couple of weeks ago when I stopped by the park to take care of our deposit for the group site.

For anyone who wishes to come early, I am including some information regarding the regular camp sites at the park. Additionally, Picacho Peak has some of the nicest bathrooms and showers available in our State Park System. They are available to all camping in the park.

If anyone would like more information on the area or has any questions on area attractions, please feel free to contact either of the hosts listed on the rally sign up page.

Campground Changes Start September 2010

Starting Monday, September 6th, 2010, the entire campground at Picacho Peak State Park will be converted into an electric campground. All Campsites in the campground will be ELECTRIC sites. The electric rate of $20.00 per night, per vehicle will be charged regardless of whether electricity is being used or not. Sites are suitable for RVs and/or tents.

Picacho Peak State Park’s campground has a total of 85 electric sites for both tent and RV camping. 4 sites are handicapped-accessible. No water or sewer hookups are available. All sites are first come-first served. Access to all sites is paved. Sites are fairly level and are located in a natural Sonoran Desert setting. Both back-ins and pull-throughs are available. No maximum size limit (except no tractor trailers allowed). All sites offer a picnic table and barbeque/fire ring. Many sites also offer ramadas, and some of the sites are handicapped-accessible. Use of the dump station is included in price for camping. Potable water is available at the dump station. Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 6 am. Generator use is not permitted during these hours. There are two modern, handicapped-accessible restroom and shower buildings available at no additional charge for campers.

New Years Rally

OK we have signed up. Hopefully this year we will not be stuck in the driveway due to snow as per last year. Looks like we will need to smoke some more salmon.

I can't think of a better group of people to be with when we bring in the new year!

Jan and I plan to make the breakfast dish one morning again this year. It went pretty fast last year. Let's hope one of these gals will help us out...

You can add another rig to the list, we're having a guest from Berkley, CA planning to bring my trailer's twin. Stef's only had her A/S since August and is looking for spending NYE with us.

I'll be arriving early!

An elephant size white auction item

I was cogitating on what to bring to the white elephant auction and came up with the attached. But on second thought I might get stuck with it and I don't want to haul it home. So, if it has any appeal to anyone I can bring it. If not it goes to a local auction this week.

I hope I do not set the precedent of spoiling the surprise but in this case it might be a good idea.

Even though I bought this at a recent garage sale thinking it might be rare and valuable, it is neither. I have also got some expert advice. Specifically, "it's toast".
