Okay now, be nice. I prefer to think of myself as the Airstream/Gypsy of the weather for all things Airstream... :-)

We couldn't attend the 4Cunit Balloon Fiesta this year, so I was not there to personally meet new folks. But, if you'd like to become a part of the 4CUnit — either as a new member of WBCCI or as an Affiliate/Associate (if you are a member of another WBBCI unit), please PM me and I will help you make that happen. It's easy to become an Affiliate ... and it's just $1 in Unit dues. What a deal!

Suggestions for the future: I'm sure there were people with Forum names I would have recognized if they were on a name tag plus real names. The list of attendees would be better if Forum names were on it. Name tags (I hate name tags, but they are useful) with both names would be good too.
I managed to meet some Forum people who I knew of, but not sure who other people were. Some people hunted me down too although I have no idea how.

This is our 5th year to attend the Balloon Fiesta. This is the first year that the stagecoach has flown. We have seen it inflated before, but we have not seen it fly until this year and it flew both days of the first weekend. Really worth the trip. We are already looking forward to next year.

With 103 rigs attending, I am disappointed that no one had a balloon ride to take an aerial picture of the assembly. I think Richard took one about 3 years ago when we were a smaller rally.

We made it home this evening. Took a side trip to Cortez, CO for a couple of days then back to USA RV in Gallup and then a couple of days at the Airstream Park in Show Low, AZ.

Rumors were a trip in a balloon was $375 to $450 per hour. One attendee, Bill (that's all I remember), helped out with tasks with one balloon hoping to get a ride, but found out that didn't work. Balloon rides at other festivals were said to cost a lot less. Whatever the truth in the rumors, those numbers certainly kept people from asking about it. Stories about injuries to people also dampened enthusiasm.
Some of the larger gondolas (the basket under the balloon) held about 8 people and those were apparently the ones that sold rides.
Personally, I prefer an enclosed fuselage, a minimum of two engines and a predetermined smooth landing place.

Cortez went very well.
That had to be the most photographed Airstream at the rally because of our location and it did look pretty good...
After a week or so on the road, it does not look as good this morning, but that will be taken care of shortly.

The weekend rate was $395 per person this year with a slight discount for weekday rides. Jan and I went in 2007 and it was a great and only cost $300 each back then.
There is only one balloon company that you can contract with and they sub contract the rides out to other companies.
