Hey Michael - great to hear from you - yes this will be a happening! Even the Balloon Fiesta folks are excited about us - that Mr Finance - that guy has got to go - he sure messes with us too much! The planning and attendence is going VERY smooth!

Yes you are the one and only TTQ and we hope that someday you can make an apperance - I am honored to know such an outstanding lady.

I second Ken's mention of the outstanding Parking Staff in post #257. We really DO appreciate them and we'll let them all know personally when we host a 100 Airstream strong Thank You potluck party to recognize their efforts! Put on your thinking caps and pull out that favorite appetizer, salad or entree dish to share. More info at the Fiesta!

We hit the magic 100 Airstreams! What a great way to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of this International Balloon Fiesta. Tired of balloons....is that possible?! The International Balloon Museum is just steps away; don't miss Old Town Albuquerque; meet and greet Airstreamers from across the country! Come ready to enjoy this popular rally which has grown from a few dozen, to 100 Airstreams in just a few short years!

Hey, Ken - since this is such a large gathering of Airstreams, is there any chance of the factory pitching in some trinkets? If they will, I'd be glad to swing through on my way West.

Generators at Balloon Fiesta?

What are the guidelines for using generators at the Balloon Fiesta Rally? Is generator useage (a) condoned, (b) loved, (c) hated, (d) tolerated by the members of the Four Corners Unit? Or, (e) all of the above?

Yes, yes yes and yes - most of us have generators

They must be off by 10pm....

We do have the generator cop in our group and if she catches you will a generator that is not approved by her - you will be marched down to the Honda dealer on site and you will have a new generator........

First Timer question:
Once we are setup on the fiesta grounds, can we still drive our truck in and out of the grounds for day trips around Albuquerque between the balloon flying sessions?

Reason I ask is, reading the Balloon Fiesta website's RV parking information sheet, line 5 says "once you are parked by the RV attendant, you can not move for safety purposes". I'm hoping that means the trailer can't be moved, but the tow vehicle could be?

You are correct - the trailer/rv cannot be moved (unless you are leaving) and you will get a car pass that lets you in and out of the RV compound.

You are free to go anytime you like - but its best not to try to leave early in the morning and early evening because thats when the big traffic jams occur as folks are trying to get into the fiesta grounds - its nice to know you can get up, have a nice cup of coffee knowing 1/2 a gazillion folks are sitting in their cars waiting to get into the fiesta grounds.

Should I get her (she who will not be called by name) pre-approval before I buy a new generator?

I hope whoever she is will come over and talk Maria into getting one! (I've been willing for some time now, but the other half of the business has doubts.)

only if it's a quiet one, and shuts off at ten...the situation occurred after happy hour was well over, and it was a commercial gen set...and, yes, she got a Honda t-shirt for her effort...we all got a good nights sleep...m

Would SHE (SHE must be more of a Goddess than cop) be happy if I purchased a Yamaha EF2000is capable of parallel connection to a second Yamaha EF2000is and therby able to run an AC?

At that time of the year, do you really need AC in Albqu.?

I'm asking since I see you live there and could shed some light on the subject.

A few people have said that it's not necessary to run an AC as the nights are cool and the day time temps are around mid 70's to 80.

I was planning to leave my gen. at home.

Sorry for the Confusion...

... no AC needed after sundown in Albuquerque, but the days can still be warm. I am getting one 2000 watt generator to keep my batteries charged and run the microwave. The second will be for travels next summer when I need an AC.

The average is mid-70's, but it could be well up in the 80's too. Record highs for Oct. 1 and 2 are 90˚, but the earliest freeze was Oct. 8, 1976. Records lows for those dates are 37 and 38˚.

You can expect anything.

The sun at altitude is more intense and will make any day seem hotter and will heat up the trailer pretty fast. Like Denver, Alb. is a mile high. Running the fans all day will help keep the trailer from heating up too much.

I think that "she who must be obeyed" will come over and personally bless the Yamaha - a fairly quick ceremony - but necessary.

I have one of those too..... Mine has not had the formal blessing though - last year I had a louder Honda and heard so much about it, I could not return with it. Lucky for me, she was several rows back and I only ran it for short periods of time.

You don't need A/C that time of year - even if it warms up, its nice - I do remember snow on the ground opening day of balloon fiesta several years ago - but that is VERY rare.

Thanks for all the good pointers about what to expect weather wise at that time of the year. I'll just travel as I normally do and be prepared instead of trying to shave items of my packing list.
I've also decided to turn this trip into a few weeks of traveling by staying in NM camping and site seeing instead of returning home right after the Fiesta.
The Fiesta seems like a great way to start a vacation.

You will be glad for any extra time you spend in NM. Please ask if you have any questions about prospective destinations within the Land of Enchantment. Start a separate thread if you like.

We'll be spending two nights in Santa Fe after the Fiesta, then one night somewhere between there and home. I'm wondering how many are going to SF (NM, not Cal.) afterward?
