some info
I am considering leaving my Airstream up there for a few weeks, I called Vicki and they do have storage available for around $50 month.
We may take a colorado trip over the 4th of July and that would save alot of towing.

We will be coming west along I-44 and I-40 taking about 2 or 3 weeks for the trip. Are there any can't miss sites or attractions along the way I should be aware of? I found Palo Duro Canyon and we will visit there. What else is there I don't know about?

While traveling to/from Palo Duro (worth the effort) you may want to stop at the "Panhandle Plains Historical Museum" in Canyon. If you are into horses the " American Quarter Horse Museum" off I-40 east side of Amarillo. See you in Abq. If you need anything while in the Amarillo Area. Shoot me a PM.

OK,
We're in! Time off, reservations at E/T done, need rally info. We hope to get up to Heron Lake near Chama for a few days first to paddle and fish... Then back down to the rally. Please let me know if ya'll need anything from this way. The Safari is back with a new rear frame so we're ready to get to it...

Does anyone want to join up and kind of Caravan into ABQ for the rally. I figure Dallas/Ft. Worth Area to an unselected (as of now) spot for an overnight fajita and beer break then on to ABQ to arrive the night before the BIG SHOW.

I had two quick PM replys.
No, unfortunately to both.
From the query from Conn. ......Fajitas and Martinis is definitely out.
From Calif. ......Fajitas and wine no way.
It is fajitas and Lone Star or fajitas and Shiner.

Anyone ariving early?
I need to fly out of Alb on Thurs and get back Sunday so I wont be at the rally proper, but it looks like I may be staying there before and after and storing the camper there. It would be fun to meet up with anyone getting there early or staying late.

Camping
I will be driving from Flagstaff to the Rally. Does any one know of a good area to camp somewhere between Flag and Albuquerque? I would prefer to boondock near a lake or stream if possible. Thanks in advance.

Try Bluewater State Park, between Gallup and Grants.

Melody - now that is funny - it made me realize that I've been out and away from Texas way too long - I think I've been New Mexicoinized because Margarita's are the standard here.

Quick note from Area 63...
we're preparing the 1958 Flying Cloud for the Restoration Rally. It has seen some progress since last year, but mostly inside and under the floor.
The topics for the hands on workshops will be centered around practical procedures that most Airstream owners with a new or vintage unit can appreciate.
Wood Working:
we will have a hands on clinic on cabinet doors, drawers, and general assembly and repair of Airstream cabinetry.
Wood Finishing:
common procedures for finishing and refinishing will me presented. A basic class on do's and dont's. A general comparison of wood finishes and their advantages and disadvantages.
Light metal fabrication
fabrication of vintage style interior window frames, perhaps vent covers, ceiling vent frames, etc. An assortment of common sheet metal tools and materials will be available for hands on fun.
Riveting
basic riveting techniques, different styles of rivets, and their uses. Another hands on class, and an important one for every Airstream aficionado.
Windows and doors
another hands on for those that want to learn about restoring Hehr windows. We will have windows and materials ready for hands-on window restoration. A complete rebuild of a 1958 entry door is also scheduled ( time permitting, though)
Electrical
the Flying Cloud does have interior skins now, but the basic electrical installation is still visible, and there will be a q&a on it's layout and design. Battery cable fabrication, as well as installation of converter/charger, inverter, and battery monitor are all scheduled. ( time permitting)
In addition, there are numerous classroom seminars, presentations, and all sorts of other interesting airstream centric events.
I am very excited to have the opportunity to share all of this with you.

NicheVintage,
Do you go through Flag on your way to Albequerque? If so, when will you be going through town? That would be great to join your caravan.

I am embarassed....
Getting ready for the trip I decided to take the Flying Cloud. I really have not done anything to it since getting it home....most work on the 47. I took a whack at polishing but ran into some problems...so I only have a half a--ed corner done. Then the AC decided to how me it had no drain pan......so why polish until thats resolved....? Then the , up till now working fine, Marvel fridg decided go south. ETC., ETC. I am still going to come with it...but if your there and see the mess....remember, this is a restoration rally. I need to attend all demos.
