Hi! I am interested in attending the "CBR" at Cherry Hill. Do I need to do anything besides make my reservations and throw my hat in the ring on this thread?

Nope, if you made your reservation your ready.

For anyone else considering attending, let me explain. This is Not the CBR. The CBR was cancelled due to muddy conditions at the farm location. So I guess you could call it the Not CBR Rally.

A group of us that were planning to attend the CBR have decided to meet at Cherry Hill Campground in College Park, Md.
Please note that this is not a WDCU or WBCCI event so there's no confusion. Sounds like one of those disclaimers we've been seeing elsewhere, but it needs to be stated.

If you would like to join us simply make your reservation through the campground website and let them know you are going to be with the April 7th airstream group. They will placing us all together in the 1400 block of the campground. We will have a group meeting area as well. Although there aren't any official activities I'm sure the group will enjoy their time together.

We have about ten signed up so far! So come and join us. Most are registering to arrive April 8th and departing on Sunday the 11th.

Plus if you qualify you get a 10% discount
Rates include 2 people per unit.
$5 each extra person (over 5 years)
$5 each extra vehicle (1 car inc. with each RV)
Hookups include: electric (20/30/50 amp), cable TV, water, sewer
10% discount for Good Sam, AAA, AARP, FMCA, KOA, Military
Free WiFi connections

Check out the map. Looks like we'll be along Badlands Gulch.
Quite appropriate don't you think?

Well said. If I could add this to the first post of the thread, I would.

When you make the reservation be sure to let them know you are part of the Airstream group As posted previously, they will try and group us in the 1400 section.

Obie, we are expecting to be part of a Fri potluck. Not sure about the Sat dinner. Can we have back-to-back potlucks?

You can add two more units to the list. We made reservations yesterday, and another WDCU member is reserving as I write this. We've been to Cherry Hill numerous times, and it's top notch. I like that it has its own Metro bus stop so we don't even have to take our tow vehicle out of the park. That was before we discovered Greenbelt. For fall and winter, it's fantastic. In fact, we'll be there on the 6th and 7th to get our boondocking fix before coming over to Cherry Hill. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Come Join Us!

The cherry blossoms and the crowds on the mall and tidal basin are at peak!!

Just a reminder its one week from today that the Non-CBR gathering will begin at Cherry Hill Campground.

It's not to late to make your reservations. In fact, I'm willing to bet if you want to wait and show up next Thursday (or Friday, or just one night-Saturday) that the campground will still have sites available (to be safe phone their office and check ) .
The only schedule restrictions are the ones you make for yourself.

If your in the area and want to stop by for happy hour, pot luck or just to sit around and talk, please come on by. Just tell them at the gate your there to visit with the airstream group.

Since this is just an impromptu event and not WBCCI related any kind of rig is more than welcome. (Bring a tent if you like. There are cabins in the park if you would like to rent one.)

If your not an airstream owner and have always wanted to see and learn more about them closeup, come on by. Someone will try to answer your questions, if not, we'll make up an answer .

Count another airstream, we had made reservations Monday. We are bringing along two grandkids, a 7 and 4 year olds. Are you planning two potluck dinners or one?

We were at one other Cherry Blossom Rally and wanted to come back again, when we heard this one was the last, we decided we had better make this one. Sorry to hear that it was cancelled, but this is just as good.

Last CBR???

Oh no, no, no, no, no!!

It was the last one to be held at the Roger's Farm in Upper Marlboro.

It was definitely not the last CBR. (barring a major catastrophe)

It's a tradition that had a slight hiccup. This year's was setback due to the harsh winter in this area and its lasting effects.

I'm sure the crew will start putting their heads together next week and come up with suggested alternatives.

Worst case senario would be to have it at the Cherry Hill campground officially next year.

Looking forward to getting together. See you there next week!

I think a lot of people are put-off by the price. Yes, it's only a couple more dollars a night than we were paying for camping at the Rogers farm, but on the other hand there's no catered dinner, no planned activities, etc. this year. So I'm sure CBR will live on but it may not be at Cherry Hill Park. (But that's a discussion for next year...)

fri pot luck

wow, it seems i am getting some experience with the "not really a rally rally" experience. with a couple of myrtle beach events under my belt and now this latest wdcu non-rally at cherry hill next weekend. trust when i say, not really a rally rallies are fun. loose is good.

to tighten it up a little bit we are organizing a fri night pot luck. just don't ask me what time it will be - figure some time after happy hour. as way of a dress rehearsal for the July WDCU/Watchung joint Rodeo Rally at Cowtown NJ - see http://watchungunit.org/RodeoRally2010.pdf - all who want to participate can join in on the pitch-fork rib-eye pot luck.

What's involved? Bring your own rib eye steak and we will cook it in the deep fryer on the pitch fork. According to my fryer instructions "this will be the best piece of beef you will have ever put in your mouth!"

for the pot luck we are asking that everyone prepare a cowboy style side dish as well. what's that? i will leave that up to your culinary creativity.

other contributions - please bring a bottle of oil. I hope that we can amass about five gallons total. stick with your bargain variety store brand canola oil. i hear jane cringeing as i write this. pretentious eater.

regarding sat night - we will be prepared for another pot luck. anyone who wants to step up with another theme is fine by me.

things to do in DC

I have posted WDCU's guide of things to do in DC. This has always been included in our Rally folder - but seeing as this is not really a rally I am posting it here. I am sure I left some really important destinations out - please let me know and I will amend the guide accordingly.

As you plan your DC outings note that you can be sure a group of us will be figuring Happy Hour at Cherry Hill CG prominently in the days schedule.

For the WDCU Washington DC Guide see...

Day 1

How many airstreamers does it take to put up a tent in the wind??

Hat's off to Dave. It survived a pretty rough thunderstorm last night.

2010 Non-CBR Get-Together

Well the 2010 Non-CBR get-together is over. I believe RJ had a count of twenty rigs that eventually joined us, two or three of which were other airstreamers in the park who were invited to come join us. Mark W. brought his Scotty canned ham. Not bad for an impromptu gathering. Dave Morrison brought his tent setup and we pushed a couple of tables under it and that's all we needed to bring folks together. I think everyone had a good time, with a happy hour every evening. The pool was open on Thursday when we arrived so some of the group got to go swimming the first day at least (temps were in the 90's). Thunderstorms and showers rumbled through after dusk and it rained off and on through the night, but Friday morning the sun was out again and it was a brisk cool day (60's) and evening turned a little chilly. Folks had to put on their jackets. It was a little chilly for Dave's rib eye steak fry that evening (that procedure is entertaining to say the least and this was his practice run for the Cowtown rodeo rally later this year) but we huddled around the campfire like troupers. The kids (both young and old) spent a lot of their free time riding bikes and playing around the park. Some of them enjoyed the evening wagon ride around the park. So if you don't see the kids (young ones) in these photos it’s because they were out enjoying themselves. The park location made it convenient for those who wanted to travel to downtown DC and see the sights. Wi-Fi was a little slow in the evenings, due to the fact the park was almost entirely filled I’m sure. I number of the group spent at least one day sightseeing. A few of us went to the Maryland historic farm near Olney, Md. (beautiful location) on Saturday to see the steam engine and tractor show along with some antique cars. Paul W. stopped by on Saturday morning for a short while and Margaret and Stuart N. came by Saturday evening and were coerced into staying for dinner which immediately followed happy hour. Both Friday’s rib eye fry with potluck side dish and Saturday’s potluck dinners were a success. The Saturday night campfire was the best, Danee A. brought in some seasoned fire wood, Dave had his music setup playing in the background and I understand they kept at it till around 3:00 am (not with the music I’m sure). I can't be sure; I gave up and went in at 11:30. The cool night air along with the evening’s beverages made me a little sleepy. Checkout was at 11:00 am. I pulled out as some of the others were taking their time getting ready to hit the road. All in all it was a fun non-rally.

Definitely a good time, even with the rain and wind. We may have scared the Ohioans off with our comments (half-joking) about how great the weather was, though. We got to meet some new people, so that was fun.

I believe the count was 16 Airstreams and one Scottie, but there was an Airstream 345LE motorhome from NH that may not have actually been part of the group - I wasn't clear on that. There was another camper with us that would be a buddy if this were a real rally, plus the people from the two Airstreams that happened to be camping there already and swung by to say hi.

You won't scare the Buckeyes of the crowd. Our weather is pretty much the same. Had a great time and look forward to future get-togethers. Many thanks to the folks we met that made us feel so welcome.

For those of you that missed it this is a picture of how to cook the Rib I Steaks on a pitch fork. The stakes were reportedly much better that the image.
