Levon, So looking forward to seeing you with that delightful southern wit you bring to the rally. My GT still needs lots of polishing so bring the grandchild along.

I made mine and so did Louis, but I doubt it will be full mid week. You could always call them up and see how many spots they have at this point.

Can't believe it!
I just now tripped across this. Are their any other restoration rallies? It's exactly what I need, but cannot make this date due to other commitments. What a great idea! I'd love to come and would... just about any other weekend. Dang....

The NM Unit had one in March and the RMVAC has one in CO in August. I have not gone to the NM Unit rally, but have gone to the RMVAC last year.

The NM one is a maintenance rally and the RMVAC is a pure vintage rally - in fact we started this rally in mind to get ready for the RMVAC. In fact I view the RMVAC as the granddaddy of vintage rallies where you will see lots of very nice vintage aluminum.
We specifically put this rally together starting with experts in the field who do this stuff for a living, we then went looking for vendors to support this rally and finally we have a schedule that will allow hands on training such as buck riveting, zolatone painting ( yes we will put a spray gun in your hand if you like ) woodworking, electrical, plumbing, polishing - on and on.
This is a seminar/convention style rally where you don't need to bring a trailer as we have a number of folks who are flying in and staying in motels.
Our mission is focused on doing our very best to present skills needed to rebuild and restore airstreams, so that those who attend - with average skills - will be able to go back home and work on their trailers with confidence.

If I'm not mistaken, the RMVAC rally is in Laramie, Wyoming this summer. I understand it is for wbcci members only, but if I'm mistaken on that (or if I join) I'd love to go to it. Thanks again to Ken for allowing our attendance in ABQ, scruffy non-members and non-polishers that we are. . Nos vemos alli!

It's all good!
No intention of hi-jacking here, but you're all right in some regards...

EVERY reoccurring rally develops it's own personality...that's what makes them all exciting! Some focus on a destination, others on an event or common interest and yet others on seminars.
[start hijack] OOoooppps...!
As for the Rocky Mountain VAC Rally, going into our 9th year, it has developed into a mix of seminars AND fun based on the feedback from participants. It's a celebration of all things vintage - the care, feeding and love of vintage Airstreams AND good old-fashioned vintage socializing.
It's a couple days longer than this Resto Rally so the seminars are spread out abit more - but they're there. It's a mobile rally in that it's in a different location within the Region almost every year. There are non-vintage rigs in attendance, but primary focus is being vintage aficionados. The last couple of years it has hosted between 60-90 trailers in attendance based on the location restraints.
Why is it limited you ask? It's a purely a numbers thing.
This year being in Laramie, WY, we do not have a strict limit on number of rigs we can have, but as part of the planning committee we have decided, for our own sanity, to limit it to <75-85 trailers....beyond that, we have found it gets too big and impersonal and difficult to find a location that can handle us. Not to mention the geometric increase in the amount of work it is for us who are all volunteers. We use our vacation time to host this event...we want to have some fun too! We're not pros - don't claim to be - but enthusiastic do-it-yourselfers, many of whom have lots of real life war stories and love to share all things aluminum. The intimate friendly, manageable event is what folks look forward to each year at the RMVAC Rally.
[/end hijack]
Like I said, EVERY rally has it's own personality - that's what makes traveling amongst them such a treat. The point of owning an Airstream trailer after all is to travel with them, right? I'm thrilled to be able to take in as many different rallies with different folks "doing their thing" as I can...it's all good!

If the weather is nice, and the MGB seems to be holding together (knock on wood), I may try to make it down just to see the rigs! While Maria is in Europe seeing after her elderly mom, I'm a bachelor here, so I gotta do something to take a break from the work!
By the way, I just added a link on Airforums to Vicki's Enchanted Trails, where the rally will be. She's cool. I've been hinting to her that she ought to offer a WBCCI discount. She may not go for the 50% that we do, but if we could get her to do a nice sized one, that would be neat!

Come on down! Its been a long time since I've seen you... The weather is looking perfect - sunny and in the 70's.
At a balloon fiesta a couple of years ago, I saw a really sweet MGB that someone put a pontiac V-6 into - VERY NICE - not to mention very fast.
