Tybee Island Convergence, Labor Day Weekend
I have this listed on the rally page, just wanted to let all Georgia Campers know about the Beach Bash on Tybee Island over the labor day weekend in Sept. There is a lot do on the island and it's a short drive to Savannah. At the moment I have nothing planned so it's just show up and have fun.
The Tybee Island RV Park has full hookups. River's End Campground and RV Park, P.O. Box 988, 5 Fort Ave at Polk Street, Tybee, Island, GA 31328.
Telephone: 912-786-5518
Toll Free: 1-800-786-1016
Their web page is: campground@cityoftybee.com
I have no formal arrangement with the city owned campground so everyone is on their own. Maybe next year if this works out I can set some more in place.
Since this is a popular weekend along with the Tybee Island Beach Bash Festival with free music and fireworks on the beach I would recommend you make reservations now if interested.

Ok, I am sooooooo jealous. I love Tybee Island! One of most favorite places on the East Coast.

This looks like a great place for a rally.
I'll make it out to the east coast one of these years. <sigh>

Savannah has always been on my list as one of my favorite historic cities. It's also a rather funny, odd, and spooky, yet fun place. Good places to eat. This is one city which Sherman left alone on his march to the sea. He then moved to Charleston, SC, and blew it apart. So you have early colonial history here, pirate history, revolutionary war history, civil war history and much more. The biggest and baddest St. Patricks Day Celebration outside of NYC. Tybee is a neat beach community that does things their own way. A bicycle friendly city.

I will be going down there in a couple of weeks. I plan to check out the island. I think River End Camp Ground is $45.00 a night of the winter months.

Great, let us know what you think. You might want to advise them that there could be a few Airstreams pulling in over the Labor Day Weekend.

I failed to mention that Tybee Island is a great place to kayak so if you have a boat be sure and bring it along.

We were at Tybee Island over Labor Day weekend two years ago. They had a great fireworks show on Labor Day and every bar and restaurant was packed plus the beach was crowded. Everyone cleared out the next day and we had the Island all to ourselves! Things to know:1) No dogs are allowed on the beach but they do have a dog park right next to the campground. 2) They are very serious about parking tickets, so buy a parking pass immediately and keep it in your car window.(We even got a ticket with the pass displayed!) 3) There is a fishing pier off of the bike trail and there is a bathroom there. 4) The bike trail is beautiful and an easy flat ride. Bike rentals and scooter rentals available. 5) The beach was wonderful 6) There is a small but nice grocery store on the Island 7) There is a place to buy Seafood on the way onto the Island, to cook yourself at the campground 8) We checked out the campground but didn't camp there. It appeared clean and well organized. It is on the river side of the Island not on the Ocean. I remember it having lots of trees. 9)Remember it is Hurricane Season at that time of year. We had evacuation warnings while we were there, but thankfully the storm moved north and we were able to stay. I would like to go back again, with the trailer and stay at the campground.

We get to Tybee at least once a year and absolutely love it. However, I have to work on Labor Day and can't make it this time. October is my favorite time to visit the island. It's still hot enough to get in the ocean and not crowded at all. We went down for the Pirate Festival 2 years ago and had a blast!

Rally Update
I just got off the phone with River's End Campground. They have agreed to set aside (12) sites, all full hookups with 30 amp service for the rally and at the rally price of $40.00 per night. If we need additional slots I may be able to get some more. This reservation is good until August 1. After that date, everyone will receive the standard rate of $45.00. We can also have at no cost use of the River Room or the outdoor pavilion to have a little social or whatever. The greater Savannah/Tybee Island Tourism Council has also agreed to work with me on lining up additional details for this or future events.
Do me a favor, when you make your reservation, tell them that you are with the Airstream group.
The Beach Bash will be great fun and I will share that information as soon as receive it.

Update, just received a call from the campground and they will not honor the rally price of $40.00 versus $45.00 since it's a holiday weekend and the rally is informal. A five dollar difference is not a big deal however.

I know about the Priate Fest. It is usually the 2nd weekend in October, but you better check that date for this year. Totally fun! It starts on Thursday night with a party to crown a Priate and Wench. It was at the Crab Shack 2 years ago. There are activities on Friday, a parade on Saturday, and a festival with music at the pier. It's a party all weekend long everywhere you go. Folks are dressed up and out to have fun!
October is my favorite time to go to Tybee. School vacations did not work out where we could attend the Priate Fest last year. I highly recommend it.

the pirate fest will surely be a future rally! go to tybee events and see everything they have going there. they have something happening all year long. For those new to Tybee Island the Labor Day Weekend Beach Bash will be a great introduction to the area and source of ideas for future trips. See everyone there!

If anyone is heading to the Pirate fest in October let us know hour impressions. We plan on making Tybee a yearly visit and we really like taking in different events. A pirate fest on Tybee is appropriate in view of the general history of the area. Savannah was a favorite resupply location for pirates and the Pirate House (now a restaurant) in Savannah is the oldest standing building in the city.
