"Trailer CONVOY" America

Convoy across America.

OK, Airstreamers what do you think. I'm puttint the same thing here that I put on the Upcoming Rallies thread. to get the discussion going.

Join the Airstream “Convoy” a cross-country trip from the West to the East. Yes, this will be lead by the East’s also known as NorCal Bambi & CaddyGrn. We are taking our 1963 Airstream Bambi for coast to coast to meet her “Sister Ship” at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC.

Remember the C. W. McCall song “Convoy”, well it’s time to let America know about the Airstream culture by creating a cross country Convoy of airstreams. We are thinking of starting in late April or May to travel across this grand country of ours. We are inviting you and yours to join up with us on your own where ever and when even you decide. We may be one or many as time goes on. Travel part way, a few miles, or the whole way.

The VAP Vintage Airstream Podcast has agreed to help us keep all you “Streamers” in touch. We will be broadcasting from our position every second Thursday. So join us and say Hi to Tim, Colin, and Rob of the VAP.

At this point we plan to stop is at the “Mother Ship” in Jackson Center. The Museum of Modern Art in New York City will be the final stop moving east. On the way back who knows where at this point. We’d like some of you Airstreamers out there helping us make that decision about where we will stop. Also California to the “Mother Ship” is a long way. Anyone have ideas about stops from here to there.

We started a Blog with concepts and ideas and a discussion thread on the forum. See the threads listed at the top of this rally thread.

P.S. we’d like reasons to stop every 200 to 300 miles. Please reasons!!

Don,

I listen every time, spoke to Tim last week about his Ambassador and my Liner, talk to Rob on occasion and met Colin at the International in Salem.

God speed.

hi don

should be a great time!

have you got even the slightest idea of a route yet?

how about posting a usa map with some possible (pin/flags) places or layovers, for each leg

might be easier for us to figure out where/when we could link up...

april/may across the northern rockies?

fun

cheers

Howdy 2air, Andy R. is looking into something of that type. I'm trying to come up with a map that will show a line of our travels as we make progress. My hope is that way members could see our progress and make decisions about how to hook up. We've got about 6 weeks to get feed back and see what happens. It would be great to have you hookup. It took the covered wagons a long time to get across the mountains, maybe us too.

East to West

Wouldn't it be great to have a CONVOY going from the 'Right Coast' to the 'Left Coast' and meet ya half way. We could drive a golden spike or some such. What a great trip you're certain to experience.

ZoominC6, How about starting in Virginia and meeting us half way. Two convoys meeting in the middle. And then we'll get spiked.

I would be interested in a trip/convoy like that depending on when.
I already have a rally in April and another trip in May this year. I'd rather not go in June, July, or August due to crowds.

What about spring 2008 as someone else mentioned? This kind of a trip may take some planning.

How about the second Annual. Part of the first annual is to meet with the "Sister Ship" at MoMA in NYC.
Shall we start a thread for the Second Annual Convoy?

Cool a convoy. Sounds terrific. East meeting West in the middle would probably interest a lot of other East Airstreamers too.

The "other" half here...

This should be a great trip and we are looking forward to our adventure! We have traveled in the last couple of years as far as Omaha in a trailer... but never East of the Mississippi other than by airplane... However, for all of you East of the Rockies... let us know nice places to go, places to stay, and what kind of camping we can expect. We do not have our route planned out yet... looking for suggestions! Out here in the West we have lots and lots of National Forest Lands and National Parks...other public campgrounds... East of the Rockies, not so much... so where do you camp? What kind of prices? What advice do you have for us on our journey?

Thanks!

Mrs. NorCal Bambi (traveling in S Tardis)

If your trip makes a swing through Arizona, I will try to make a day with you. I will keep an eye on your route selections.

NorCal Bambi & CaddyGrn: Have you thought about doing Route 66 on the way? Here is a link for some Route 66 convoy ideas. Route 66

Following Route 66 is a great option for traveling at least one of the directions. Like axflycaster, I too would like to hook up with you guys for an overnight. Along the Mother Road would be a great place to make it happen since it goes through Flagstaff.
