Steens Mountain Rally - Oregon
Hello all ! I am putting together a rally at Steens Mountain RV park in extreme South Eastern Oregon.
The dates are September 16th to September 20th
A few things to know : The area is very remote. There is no cell phone signal at the RV park. They do have Internet service available at the Park office for public use. Most sites are water/electric 30 amp/sewer, a few sites have 50 amp. There is no gas in Frenchglen OR. Make sure you get gas before heading to the park. I believe the closest gas is about 20 miles away, north on OR 205 (towards Burns, OR). The weather is generally very good this time of year but as you all know things can change quickly. So come prepared for cool nights and warm days. They do have a dump station at the park. They request that you do not dump your tanks at the site.
Sites and Payment : I have reserved sites 34 to 43. Ten sites. I have 8 of the ten sites filled and can add more if need be. You can pay at the park office when you arrive. You can park in a spot and walk to the office if you like. The have a $5 surcharge for using a debit/credit card. They do take personal checks and cash. If you wish to come earlier than Friday please let me know asap. I will need to call them to make arrangements.
This is a very beautiful area. There is a lot to see and do. I encourage you to come early and take in the sights. Here are a few links for your reading pleasure. BLM Steens Mountain , Steens Mountain RV Park , Oregon Photos Steens Mountain , Steens Mountain Scenic Byway Try searching Google Earth for the park, they have a good aerial view. I tried to put a link here but couldn't figure it out. arrgghhh.
If you have any questions feel free to post them here or send me a PM.
Don't forget to sign up on the rally calendar !
I hope you can make it !
See ya Down The Road ! Chris

Wow Chris,
Interesting spot! We will be there Friday and Sat.... a little early to know about a day or two prior. We will make arrangements with you as soon as we can get it together! I WILL be coming with Don.... he didn't include me in his rally calendar post. Humph!
The internet for public use in the office... is it a "connection" or a computer terminal one uses? I know I will have to have my internet fix at some point...
Thanks for doing this!

This sounds like a beautiful area; not sure what our 'coming early' looks like at this point. We will let you know as soon as we can.
Thanks much for putting this together.

Hi Claudia, They have an Internet connection. No computer, at least they didn't have one there when I was there a couple years ago. I have a cable you can use if you don't have your own. Or you can use my lap top.

Chris,
Thanks! We will probably bring our laptop for this journey... but always good to know there is a back up plan! I still have a cable around somewhere...
BTW, does anyone know how Darol is doing? I haven't heard a thing since he broke his leg...I am hoping no news is good news....
Chris, let us know if we can bring anything extra!

I sent Darol a letter last week but haven't heard back. I hope he's back home out of rehab by now and recovering.

We definately want to join this one, it is one of Brad's "must do someday" destinations. We would arrive Thur. the 17th and stay until Sunday.
Should be lots of fun!

I just signed up but I'm a real greenhorn. Just picked up Safari 25 4/24. Lots to learn. Haven't been to that area but it sounds like fun if you don't mind a tag-a-long who's trying to learn as I go. Steve and Sue

We just got back from Malhuer NWR and stayed at both Steens Mtn. Resort and Page Springs BLM dry camp next door; beautiful area! Bear in mind the road to both sites from French Glen is not paved, so easy does it, prepare to get a little dusty. Our Verizon phones worked fine. The internet connection is dial-up, so be prepared for the wait. Be also prepared for a child's desk to sit at. Make sure you either bring a modem or have one built-in, as our MacBook does. I would check your site before pulling in; some are easy to get in and a bearcat to get out

Steens
I plan to be there (even though it will cause me to miss the beloved Beavers in a home game). Probably drive there on Thurs. and leave Sunday a.m. Really looking forward to seeing that part of Oregon. This is our first summer as Airstreamers after working on our Caravel for over a year, so we are looking forward to meeting some of you. Is there anything else I need to do to sign up?
Thanks

Just bring your mandolin for some jamming! That'll make three of us!
(Mark and I play in a weekly "slow jam" together)
Should be fun!
Chris will let us know what the meal plan is as we get closer. Hope we can eat at the Diamond Hotel (family style) one night!
Thanks Chris for hosting this. We'll help out in any way we can.

It would be fun to see you guys again....and the latest addition to the family! I think it would be great if you could make it. BTW....I have a 22' Argosy for sale if you're thinking of getting back into AS's.

Looks promising to make one of these - finally. This working four days on and four days off makes it difficult to do things with friends/family. Just have to wait to have the vacation approved (should not be too huge an issue, I am the senior body, no one is on the schedule and I am maxed out on vacation time). And, I need to manufacture the time to get out in the shop and stuff the engine back into the Suburban.
So, I look forward to finally meeting you folks. Of course, being the recluse I have been you will probably want me to drag 'slimer' up to Fish Lake like I did in '04
