Spring Meat and Fire Rally, Northern Illinois

Join us for the Annual Spring Rally at Pecatonica in Northern Illinois, May 11 through the 13th, 2012.

This quiet County Park is located between Rockford and Freeport and is an easy drive from Chicago, Eastern Iowa and Southern Wisconsin. Sites have 30 amp electric, water hydrants throughout the park to fill your tanks when you arrive, and a dump station.
Check out the park webpage for some of the other amenities.
Pecatonica River « WCFPD

Spend the days checking out the local activities, indulge yourself at the potluck dinners and swap stories around the fires at night.

This year a couple of the guys have decided to keep the Saturday night potluck dinner simple ........ keep the campfire going and cook meat over the open flames! This is a back to basics kind of weekend with simple camp fare. Keep an eye on this thread to see the hilarity ensue....

I wish I had my trailer home to work on with this crazy weather!

Starting to really get the itch to go camping. 10 weeks and counting!
Post #3 has the link to the sign up page. Mark you calendar and get you camping gear together!

The pot luck on Saturday is basic camping food. Bring your own meat to throw on the fire and a dish to pass.

We have:
Potato Salad
Baked beans

featherbeder, You have already joined the forums here so no other membership is required to join in at forums rally sites. All you need to do is sign-up to attend and make your reservation for a site with the park. prepare to be with the rest of the Airstreamers attending the rally. Not snobby like some groups. Just good folks who like to camp and enjoy each others company. Happy Trails, Ed

Mike, I don't know if I will have the wiring issues sorted out for the taillights and marker lights in time for the rally. Would like to make it if at all possible. Still hoping to get to work on them and the 12 volt system early this spring. Will let you all know if it happens to work out or not. Ed

Glad to have you. No reservations for the group; and the park does not have reservations, first come only. A couple of usually arrives on Thurs AM and tries to keep sites available.
For meals we are on our own but eat together. Sat nite is the potluck with your own meat. We try to keep a fire going except for late at night with a bottom less coffee pot

The "Policy" is not firewood from outside of the campground. This is due to bug infestations causing all kinds of problems. If you keep it on the low (out of sight) it should not be a problem. The camp host works with us. Everyone chips in on buying firewood for the weekend.
Looking forward to seeing you there! I know a few of us are really needing the decompression time just sitting around a campfire!!!!

In our quest to “Keep It Simple” this go-around I came to the conclusion that tending to meat on an open fire might require some unnecessary effort.
What with having to put down your drink, get up out of the chair, inspect the fire, flipping over the meat, doneness, ect. Why, that just doesn’t seem appropriate for our non-theme, theme.

Flipping….. Why bother turning over your own main dish???

I rummaged around in the shed and found an old BBQ rotisserie. Went down stairs to the shop and found some square tube in my scrap box.
A little work tonight has produced a “Set It and Forget It” appliance to clamp to the side of the fire ring.

Now. What to Roast??

See you all soon,

Tom.

hey big ed, just make it there and we will fix you up over some drinks, the men have lots of time on their hands. That's why we are supposed to fix dinner this year. lol Ironically, the women find way too many things to keep them busy! BTW we are riding bicyles on friday, i have been in training to keep up with mike and dana!
